Hi,

MacBooks come with a 30 day test drive of Microsoft Office. The price of Mac Office is the same as Windows Office and is available through thousands of different companies, including the Apple Store.

The Microsoft Office version of Word on the Mac is the Microsoft Office version. Word is a Macintosh program that was ported to Windows, not the other way around. The feature set is not 100% identical, but unless you want to get really esoteric about it I'd be willing to say they are the same. The user interface on the Mac version is far superior to the Windows version - especially for Mail Merge. The Windows version still does not have the context sensitive palettes introduced in Word 98. Only recently has the Windows side added their scaled down version of the palettes (they're called Task Panes on Windows).

Competing products to Microsoft Office:
* Google Docs and Spreadsheets
Offer superior sharing capabilities
Not as fully featured toolset
No Presentation component

* Text Edit
A free, fully functional word processing program that comes with every Mac. It's under appreciated. If you need just basic word processing this program is likely all you need. It's more robust than Windows Notepad or WordPad.

* OpenOffice
This office suite is free from Sun Microsystems. It has a Word Processor, Spreadsheet, and Presentation component. If you don't need to share your documents with anyone else, this is an OK word processor and spreadsheet. The presentation component is lame. It's old-fashioned looking, but it's free.

No, the MacBook does not come with a full version of MS Office for Mac. Only a 30 day test drive edition.

If you're a student or a teacher, you can purchase Office for Mac for 149.95$ plus a 25$ mail-in rebate.

EDIT: Just reread the question, no; there are no other MS programs that are made for Mac. Microsoft only makes Office.

OpenOffice is one solution:

Althought, it's still in the early stages, but it is free.

Truthfully, I use Google Docs for all of my word processing. It's free, and I can access them from anywhere.
