This is a very simple, and very honest question. Especially with referrence to that scripture. IT IS STEALING. No "victor takes the spoils" because there was no battle spoken of, just taking something that belongs to someone else! And it is Christians who keep saying it is all true.

Taking something from someone else without their permission is stealing and should be punishable by hanging in the public square or at the city hall.

Stealing is bad doing. It is against with law (unlawful) and also against with the islamic religion because God spoke that someone who steals something will get sin.So stealing is prohibited by God.Stealing is defined as take another's property or ideas without permission. But spoil is the property of our enemy .So there is a battle and the winner is permitted to take their belongings as spoil.

To steal is to take something you have no right to take.
The verses you cite give people the right to take certain things. So it is not an example of stealing.

In Deuteronomy 23:24-25 we read that people were allowed to enter a vineyard or a field of corn and eat what they wanted. They just were not allowed to carry off the produce. They couldn't gather it. Looking at it from the farmer's perspective: God was telling the farmer to extend this courtesy to others. This is sometimes referred to as the " law of crops."

Deuteronomy 24:19-22 states: "When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing."

God was making provision for those in need. These verses help to define what is not stealing. Jesus allowed his disciples to follow this "law of crops". In Matthew 12:1 we see the disciples in a cornfield plucking the ears of corn because they were hungry. No one argued that they shouldn't have taken the corn. Instead the Pharisees argued that they did it on the Sabbath. So even the hypocritical Pharisees didn't see the taking of the corn as stealing.

I see these sections in Deuteronomy as achieving, in part, what is spoken of in 1 John 3:17. "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

And yes, stealing is bad because God says it is. God says that we should not steal. In Ephesians 4:28 it states, "Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth."

Cultures are different throughout history. Back in the OT era, when u fight a group of people and win, u win their belongings as well.

U cant relate everything in the bible to today's culture. It just wont work. The middle-eastern culture back then isnt the same as American culture for example.

Stealing in general is bad. I define it as the taking of something that isn't rightfully yours.

stealing is taking something that isn't rightfully yours. And it goes beyond tangibles...it can be inanimate. IE: If you lie to someone, you're robbing their rights to know the truth.
