To trivialize the rise of modern life by attributing it to a few magic words spoken by a fictional creator?

People are saying that the results of a process that has taken nature billions of years (that's some number with NINE 0's attached) was done by Sky Daddy in seven days.

Does anyone else see a sugar-coated "screw you" at nature there?

dze: that's my point. it's not trivial. what annoys me is that such an amazing thing is trivialized to the accomplishment of one guy over the course of a few days.

god: you hit the nail on the head. I was trying to think of a good analogy, but nothing good was coming to me

sabbonist: you're preaching to the choir, my friend. nature is god. what my god did over billions of years is what they claim thiers did in days

willow: i like you.

I see a screw you at humanity altogether there. It's as if we're all mentally deficient and can't discern the difference between fantasy and reality. If the whole of creation magically appeared at a few words spoken by 'Sky Daddy' then everything humans have learned all this time has been for nothing. It makes science look like the enemy of God when really, religion is the enemy of humanity & of 'God,' aka, nature.

I'm sure the myth concerning the creation of the earth was not meant to take a stab at nature. Not saying there's any way in hell anyone/thing could create so much in such little time, but you're disliking the myth for the wrong reasons.

I see it. Lets take apart the fact that i believe in a god. Christians that believe the earth to be 6000 years old and stuff against the overwhelming evidence of it being billions of years old and evolution being correct and stuff is not only a "screw you" to nature, but it is also believing that God lied, and it that is not a blasphemy, i dont know what it is!

Religion was (and still is) essentially a massive oversimplification of explaining the unknown. Gods were created left, right and centre to explain why the Sun rose and why the rivers flooded. Everything that was inexplicable to primitive man was attributed to gods.

What I consider the true insult to nature is how we, as mankind, continue to rape her natural resources.

Humans tend to think we have the absolute right to take and take with no thought about the effect it has on the other life forms we share this space with. In short, we are parasites destroying our host.

On a side note - Yes, I believe in Evolution.

Well yeah, but nature is basically amoral, and really isn't that interested in humans - things SuperDaddy promises to care about. . .it would be nice to have a common sense book on being nice and living in harmony with all of creation. Imagine.

Of course. All monotheistic religions and a few others as well have this idea that the earth, nature and the world are somehow corrupt or evil and exist to be subjugated and eventually escaped from. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

Yes it's like when a doctor slaves away for years in school and after he succesfully completes surgery on a patient, everyone says, "praise the lord, it's a miracle."

"Does anyone else see a sugar-coated 'screw you' at nature there?"

So, basically, your concern is that belief in God, the Almighty Creator of the universe, might offend or insult nature?

You have it backwards friend. God created nature. How do you think it got to be so marvelous....so inspiring...so complicated yet simple. Only a creator with extroidinary powers could envision something as wonderful as that which we call "nature"
