The easy answer is that mormons will stop at nothing to start a conversation about their church...But, seriously folks-

Mormon congregations are set up on something of a geographic grid. The church building you attend your meetings in is the one that services the area your home address is in. So it is likely that the street these two buildings are on is also the dividing line between two larger congregational boundaries. The odd closeness of the two properties could be because of some combination of land availability, cost, zoning, etc. The similar architecture may be because one of the buildings is older than the other, but not much older.

Near my home there are three large mormon " Stake Centers" (Larger chapels with additional office space.), and a huge softball facility all within a block of each other, all church-owned. But I'm guessing there are 7-10,000 mormons supporting those buildings, and living within walking distance. They only build stuff as they need it.

Sorry, no bizarre theological significance. Probably more mormons in Mesquite than you would guess, though.

Grins :)
