I never even saw the temple clothes, until I was ex-mormon.

GMA Joan, doubt however much you want about the lock, but my parents kept the briefcase locked. I even tried to open it once, but I didn't want to break the briefcase and make it obvious, so I didn't.

So, what, did the lock magically open for you after you became "ex Mormon"?

I am not Mormon, but from what I hear they are sacred, they can only be worn if you are pure and attend Temple. So maybe it is so no one else would get them, smaller kids try them on, not sure, but will check back later to hear the true answer from a Mormon.

Since you are a self-proclaimed X-Mormon, why do you care? The clothes are SACRED. They are NOT worn outside the temple and only one with a VALID temple recomend should even handle them. I will be purchasing myown later this month and YES, I will keep them at home in a locked suitcase to keep prying eyes such as you obviously have from questioning it.

Everything that is said in the temple ceremonies is public record at the Library of Congress.

It makes them clothes locked in a briefcase, nothing more. Only God can make something sacred and if you know about them than they are not secret either.

They are sacred. They probably did not want their children to get into them and play with them.

My parents did not keep them locked, but we were not allowed to play in their bedroom, or really go in there with out asking. I am sure if one of us had gotten into them then they would have explained to us that they are sacred and we should not play with them.

It seems that they were sacred to them (and yup! they are sacred because are used for something sacred) so they tried to keep them in a safe place. There is no reason to be exposing your garments.

when my dad's wore out, he cut out the symbols on the chest and threw the sacred symbols away and the cut up the garments and used them for painting. Mormons are taught to recycle.

Sacred. They probably didn't want their kids pulling them out to get them dirty. Also I really doubt about the lock. I keep mine in a small suitcase clean and ready for a trip to the temple, it saves a lot of hassel to be organized and not have to fold them and such when it is time to go.

I dressed my parents for their funerals in their temple clothes... the pics of the clothes are all over the net. They are sacred to them, not secret...

When I was sealed to my parents in the Manti Temple, I was embarassed to wear them and I thought they were silly, but to my parents, they were special and sacred.

I think that to believers, those clothes are as amazing to them as the Hubble photos are to me...

they probably kept them locked because they knew you would try to corrupt something so beautiful, I'm sure they are so sad knowing that their own son is destroying something they love so much.
