Escargot is more of a chew than taste, except for whatever they're seasoned and sauced with. Plain escargot taste like butter. If it helps you

I disagree that they have no taste. The taste is light, but it is a mushroomy/earthy flavor... Generally, they are cooked with garlic butter and/or wine and those are stronger flavor. I love a properly cooked escargot, but only have them 5 or 6 time a year.

Garlicky and buttery. The snail itself doesn't have a lot of flavor per se. I have substituted mussels in escargot recipes and the overall flavor is the same.

It really depends on what it's cooked in. The time I had escargot it was in a garlic butter sauce and it was actually pretty good.

Yes, I had it in France once. It basically tastes like what it is cooked in. Mine tasted essentially like butter and garlic. It really doesn't have a strong taste, just a weird chewyness to it. With some bread, I found it quite good. But don't try Paté!

Well...when we were little kids we used to go out to the woods after a rainy day, very early in the morning...and the snails were everywhere...We used to pick them and make money that way...let me explain....They had a place where we could go,deliver them, they weigh them...and then we got paid per pound....We used to make all our summer money that way.The organization valued them because they used them for medicine....So....to cut the story short...all I can imagine is their little eyes...kind of antennas...looking at me....no,thank you...some people think they are a delicacy..cannot eat them....

Mmmm...Yummy! They do take on the taste of the ingredients in which they're cooked, but that's part of the charm.
