This si very irresponsible ownership, and in many areas, illegal to leave an animal alone that long regardless of the supplies it has.

Please board it in a kennel or at the vets. It may cost a lot, but don't be irresponsible.

You have no idea what could happen to your dog while you are gone. What is it injurs itself in some way? There is no such thing as a dog proof area. It could escape, get into something.. break something..

The water could all spill out in the first day. Ants could infest the food. The water could go stale and the dog refuses to drink any.

So, long story short, NO.

NO NO NO!!! Did you know someone can call the ASPCA and they will come and rescue your dog and take him away? You could be charged with neglect. A dog is like a child... you have a responsibility as an owner when you take on a dog... so, you are going to have to find a place to board him (check with your local vet or even the humane society), check with neighbors... SOMEBODY has to be responsible for that dog.... The food will be gone in two days (he doesn't know when to stop), the water could be sloshed out of the bowl... or he could drink it all at once... and he does need to be walked. Dogs are social creatures. Do not leave him alone.

No, I don't think it's ok to leave your dog alone for a week. Would you leave a kid alone for a week? The dog could eat all the food and drink all the water in a matter of days. You're leaving your basement open all week? You want someone to break in?

NO! What in the world are you thinking? Of course you can't leave him alone for an entire week. Why in the world do you even own a dog. By the third day he is going to hurt himself going nuts with worry... wondering why he has been deserted. He doesn't have concept of time and will start to panic. He will try to find a way to get out. He may quit eating and drinking. Dogs go through terrible separation anxiety!! Do you think he will just eat , sleep, and that's all???

i'm sorry, but absolutely not. first of all, it is illegal in most cities in the u.s. more importantly, it is a terrible risk to take with your dog. dogs are social creatures. your dog will not trust you when you return if you leave him home alone with no care or attention for a week. if he knocks his water bowl over, he no longer has water and will perish in a matter of a day or two. if he overeats food he could get very sick. for the sake of this animal, please do not continue considering this idea. part of owning a pet is understanding the responsibility it carries. this is a living, breathing creature and deserves far more than solitary confinement for a week. boarding is an option, a family member, friend or neighbor should also be asked. petsitters are available pretty much everywhere. if you have to, find a teenager in the neighborhood you can pay to come over 2-3 times a day to love and care for him. it is debatable whether or not he should be left along overnight - i can assure you he cannot be left alone for a week.

when in doubt, remember this quote: "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." this should always guide the decision.

Nope.. He will eat his food the first day, he will dump the water and have nothing to drink.. he will then start barking and drive the neighbours mad.. They will call the animal control people.. who will come to your house and knock on the door.. You won't be there, they will hear your dog in the basement SCREAMING and they will kick down your door.. They will find the dog in the basement with no food and no water and very distressed and they will take the dog from you.. You will get a big fine, lose your dog and be banned from owning dogs EVER again!

No, don't leave him alone. You don't know what can happen to him. On top of that, a one-year old dog still acts silly and chews around: what if he chocked or ate something poisonous? You migth be in trouble also if he starts with seperation anxiety. You can also get a fine from the city or the local SPCA if someone reports noise or smell. My opinion: find a friend to care for him or somekind of doggy day care. Be humane. Would you leave a child alone for a whole week?

Oh my Goodness NO, you will have the ASPCA and dog warden SO far up your butt that you will need an incredibly long stick to remove them.

I had a situation where I ended up in the hospital and asked a friend to go by 2 times a day to cjheck on my puppy (he was 11 months old) and feed him and walk him... which the friend did but because of his schedule the neighbor had not seen him do so and called the ASPCA, they came and took the puppy the day before I came home and it took me 2 weeks and tons of paperwork to get him back, he had water and food and there was no poop so he had gone out but the neighbor said that no one had been over, so to make a long story short they had to get all the hospital papers that I was there and my friend had to prove he had been there and WOW...

So, no I wouldn't suggest it!

Awww, poor thing. Can't you get a coworker or somebody to check on him at least two or three times? See if a neighbor kid will walk him a couple times for 10 bucks. Dogs go through separation anxiety and especially if he is only 1 year old he still has A LOT of energy and will definitely take it out on something!
Best wishes - hope it works out for you.

Of course not - that's animal neglect.
You need to have someone take care of your dog or put him in a kennel or pet resort while you are gone.

Another animal could get in your yard or basement and hurt or kill your maltese or someone could steal him. How can you even consider such an irresponsible, cruel idea?
