Just think about how misreable it must be for a helpless infant to cook together in a vehicle. What is wrong with people? How on earth could anyone forget and leave their child in a car? I never ever forgot about my children not for a minute and I never, ever left them in a car and it makes me sick to think anyone would "accidentally" leave their child to roast in their car. What are these people thinking?

I completely agree with you. I have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that the people who have done this have really committed murder. I hope I am wrong. But I can not understand in any way how someone can "forget" their child is in the car. As a society, we've heard, "Oh, this person has suffered enough. Do not punish them for making such a mistake." But Good Grief!

As you say you never forget your kids because you care about them so much. I agree with the other answer though about the change in routine. Or maybe someone isnt getting anough sleep. Tragic things happen to people all the time. I wouldnt be so quick to pass judgement because no one is perfect, lord nows what you could forget one day that could mean consequenses to you! I would get off my high horse cause we are all human and Im sure that these people feel badly enough about what has happened. If anything happened to my child I dont know how Id live with it let alone if I were responsible. These people dont need to be judged by you, Im sure they are doing a good enough job of hating themselves without your help.

I read an explanation about this. It is not intentional and it is not evil. You need to read this, and realize that it can happen to you:

As they were able to put more and more info into the cockpits of fighter jets, they did. But they never wondered if they would hit a point of overload. Until they noticed that the jet would stop responding for several seconds, and the pilot would have no recollection of what happened. Just as a computer can freeze and need to catch up in order to start operating again, so can the human brain. I've put things on the roof of my (compact) car, right in the line of sight where I can't miss it and drive off without it and yet I have, especially if I'm trying to keep several things on my mind.

Yes, this is a horrible thing. What's even more horrible is for the parent to be punished as a criminal abuser in addition to bearing the guilt and grief of losing a child in this manner, and for no more fault than being humanly forgetful.

Notice how the prosecution and sentences vary depending on who you are. Hired child care is seen as negligent but accidental, and most likely to escape prosecution. Parents are more likely to be prosecuted, but mothers are 26% more likely to do time and they're sentenced to an average of 2 years more than fathers. This isn't justice--it's a witch hunt fueled by emotionalism.

Pay attention to what happened when we followed the advice to put children in the back seat for safety (in case of an accident): the deaths from heat went from 11 per year to 36. Out of sight, out of mind.

Unfortunately there is no test to give to people to see if they are smart enough to be parents. I can't imagine the torture a child goes through when neglected in any way. The true mistake is one thing--but GOD--can't the courts do something with these people. Dead is dead--stupid is stupid --they should get jail time--let them think about it for a year or two. Sometimes I wonder about it being deliberate and a big act with all the crying--just to collect insurance money. OH I can't even talk about it anymore. take care.

In the parents' defense, I can imagine a situation where the routine changes, say mom usually takes the baby in the morning, but one day dad does. On the way out the baby falls asleep and since they're quiet, the dad is set in his routine and he forgets the sleeping baby while he goes inside to run errands or go to work.

I really don't think in most cases it's done maliciously. Of course there are psychos who do their kids in, but most of those people are just humans who made one, horrifying slip-up that they have to live with for the rest of their lives.

It's not a matter of not loving their kids or being as mindful or as perfect as you say you are, it's just that people sometimes do stupid things and that can have terrible consequences.

Their kids are just not that important too them.
I never left my kids in a car either. I always think of my kids first while getting in the car, driving, and getting out of the car. As a mom, my kids are my most important job. Now my kids are teens and I still do not leave them in the car.

I tell you what they're thinking!!! They thinking it must be funny leaving a baby roasting in the car while the other half of the brain is left at home in the freezer. Thats just straight up cruelty..! If they left the baby in the car..Dont imagine what they do to it at home!

I ask myself this question every time I see another child death from being left in a car ... most times the parents are on the phone, and get distracted ... or they have so many other things on their mind ... its amazing how disposable family's are these days.

I know! People are going nuts! What were they think?! How would you feel if you were left in a car to die! Its mean! People are murberers for that! But they do it because they cant handle a kid! Well, they asked for it! They knew what was coming! But to kill the child! How....why....would anyone do that! It is just pure mean! I cant believe people are so crule! I would just throw them in jail for that! :(
