When I was younger, I had an xray done on my knee because at that time I did have pain in my knee. The doctor had told me that it was just growing pains, but sent me to have an xray done on it. I never had anything done to them surgically, and I have outgrow my knees even hurting the least bit. My summed question is, would this be an alarming issue to MEPS, or should I just explain it to them.
Thanks,
Matt

No, don't even bring it up. Doctors at MEPS are concerned about health issues that will affect eligibility and performance in the military. They have to threaten enlistees with lawsuits and prison and all that crap because some people really do lie about serious things. The truth is that unless you end up with serious injuries attributed to a previous injury you didn't inform them of, they will not waste the time to take counteraction toward you. Your doctor at the time concluded that it was not a health problem and the case was closed so why bring it up and make it into a problem again. Instead, when they ask you if you have any health problems, tell them the truth: You are the healthiest person in the building.
I had broken my arm when I was younger. When I went to MEPS I told them (you HAVE to tell them serious things like that but this story is to show you what happens). I had a note from my doctor saying that it had completely resolved and that no health risks were involved. I got pulled out and questioned further and then got sent to a hospital where they x-rayed me and poked and proded at it and then sent me home just to call me back the following week saying that I had to miss school again to return so that they could finish my porocessing and tell me that it was ok.

If there were no issues, why bring it up? MEPS will not check your medical records, so this is a non-issue. If you had had surgery, even a scope, then you MIGHT bring it up. But, what you're saying is that it was just an X-ray, which is nothing but a picture. Are you going to tell them about your High School picture? *L*

I'm telling you this as an Army Medic... don't bring up a damn thing at MEPS. It doesn't matter. You can pass and APFT you're good to go, all they want is to document as many injuries now as possible so that if ya get hurt later they can bring that to court and build up a "reoccuring condition" defense and try to not pay you.

What you describe seems to be Osgood-Schlatter's Disease. Don't freak out. Its a condition where the top of the shin bone decalcifies in adolescence and recalcifies in early adulthood, forming a little floating bone between the shin and the knee cap. Touch your leg under the knee cap and see if you find a notch in the top of the shin bone. If so, you've got it. It won't shorten your life. But, it is disqualifying for enlistment or appointment in the armed forces.

Your medical record doesn't start until you go to MEPS. The recruiter will tell you not to say anything, but tell them that this happened. As long as it's not a current condition, you'll be fine. I joined the army as soon as I could after hernia surgery.

My daughter had the same problem. I used to call her "cracky" cuz it used to crack alot. After alot of tests it was determined to just be growing pains. It's not a huge issue to MEPS. alot of people have what you do and get through just fine.

This will not be an issue. There was no injury, no surgery, no reason to even disclose. Good luck and thanks for deciding to serve our country!

Not a problem. It's what they believe your fitness is now that counts.
