You cannot get them from the dog!! They are specific to animals!!!! They are also not highly contagious from one dog to another. Usually they have gotten them from their mother.

With ear mites, you should give your dog the medicine the vet gave you. I don't think people get ear mites. I've never heard of that. But you should clean your dog's ears first, and then put the eardrops in. Make sure you do as the vet said. Also, my vet told me putting Frontline on your dog helps against ear mites. You can get that without a prescription.

To clean his ears, squirt the ear cleaner into his ears. Then massage the ear at the base, where it connects to his head. You should hear the liquid squishing around. Then take a cotton ball and swab out his ear. Be gentle. You can clean his ears every day before you give him the medicine.

Ear mites should resolve quickly with almost any treatment. You can't get it, but in severe infestations, a local irritation on the human is possible. If the vet used ivermectine to treat him he should be safe for contact immediately, otherwise, give it a couple weeks. Dr.W vet

are you sure he has EAR mites and not SKIN mites? Dogs usually don't get ear mites. You cannot get ear mites but certain types of skin mites you can get. I would verify with your vet.
