Can I depart from Sydney, Nova Scotia, drive the Cabot Trail and make it back to Sydney in one day?

I don't have to drive the whole length of the trail. Maybe just part of it.

yes, you can, quite easily.
try to drive it in a clockwise direction; thart way you're hugging the hillside, not the cliffside.
