warm-salt water gargles, ibouprofen helps. also heard that vanilla abstract kicks ****. if nerve is exposed due to cavity decay which leaves it exposed... at most drug stores they sell cheap $3.00 - $8.00 kit to repair loose caps / crowns, and lost fillings. I am in same boat, No insurance, poor oral health, But, purchased one of kits and packed the putty material in broken tooth which nerve was exposed, allowed it to set as directed and it has lasted for close to 3 months during which, I searched for dental schools, etc... so that I may obtain some treatment even if in worst case scenario of 1st come 1st serve emergency treatment at local university dental school. you can also go to local emergency room and probably sit for 6+ hours but, leave with antiboitics, and possibly some pain ,medication and if its a charity hospital they possibly will have dental department they will set you up with appointment. It may take some time overall and be sure DO NOT miss any appointments if so.,.

You could try rinsing with warm water with some hydrogen peroxide in it.

When I first started doing that years ago, it hurt at first. If I made the solution too strong - say, half and half - it hurted a lot!
And I could feel it right into my jaw bone.
That went on for just over a week.

Hydrogen peroxide is H2O2 - water with one extra oxygen molecule.
Infections can't survive in a high oxygen environment, when the peroxide hits infection it bubbles as the extra oxygen is re-leased.

Anyway, like I said I have been doing it for years, and believe it solved potential problems, and I know it has prevented problems.
I know it will help your situation. It's just a matter of degree.

You would have to do it I would think twice a day, and again make a weak solution at first, but strong enough to notice it. That discomfort goes away soon after you spit it out.

Peroxide is a cheap, effective and easy thing to use. And has a great many uses.

I have been a dental nurse for around 10 yrs.
You will eventually need dental treatment, painfull teeth usually result in worse pain if left too long.
You can go to a chemist and ask for oil of cloves.
here in New Zealand it's around $4.00 so maybe $6 USD.
Place a cooton bud (ear bud thingy) into the jar of oil and gently drop it on the tooth, this will teporarily sooth the tooth for as often as it is used.
You really need to put aside some money week by week and eventually save to have an appt as this could end up worse than a throbbing tooth.
Extraction
Root canal Treatment.
Good luck.
Floss, daily your gums may bleed to start off with while doing the actual floss, but after the 2nd or 3rd day this should stop.
Rinse mouth with warm salty water 2tsp salt in glass of warm water

I recently had emergency surgery (in my mouth and neck) because I ignored an infected tooth.

First try an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen. Take 800 mg which makes it prescription strength.

You can also swish with saltwater, or even hold whiskey in your mouth where the tooth is at.

Most importantly: YOU NEED ANTIBIOTICS, AND YOU NEED THEM NOW.

If you don't have insurance, go to the emergency room like I once did. They will give you a prescription for Antibiotics and a painkiller (usually vicodin).

The hospital will bill you and you can pay them as little as $5 or $10 per month, although it will take you a long time to pay it off that way.

The scripts will run you about $30 total without insurance.

Nobody will laugh at you for coming in to the ER or Urgent Care with tooth pain. I ignored my tooth pain and I almost died from an abscess.

Ever seen Shrek? That's what my face looked like within 24 hours, and it almost cut-off my breathing.

Off you go... Turn off your computer!

An infected tooth can lead to blood poisoning and gangrene (no joke) If you allow it to go on and something happens to you and you aren't around for your kids, then what? Get someone to watch your kids and go to ER......they will treat the infection and can recommend a dentist who will pull it and take payments, might even be able to have it pulled there. Please do not wait any longer! This infection is serious! The penicillin you are taking will not work- if you have left over antibiotics that means you did not finish all the medication the first time and now the infection is coming back worse than before and now you don't have enough to kill the infection! PLEASE DON'T WAIT! GO TO ER! Let us know how you are doing!!

Go to a walk in clinic, call a dentist or call your doctor and see if they will give you cheap antibiotics over the phone and some pain meds. Many will.

Once you begin antibiotic treatment you'll kill the infection and pain fairly quick but you'll have to yank or fix that tooth--insurance or not.

If you let it go, it could literally kill you--so don't think only with your wallet.

I feel awful for you and hope you're better soon.

I think ibuprofen(extra strength) might help better than tylenol because it helps with the inflammation. If you swish with a watered down amount of hydrogen peroxide, it will help with the infection. You can swish with a saltwater solution to draw out infection. I also use a combination of vitamin C and echinacea(recommended by my local health food store), along with odorless garlic capsules. (fresh garlic will help better to fight the infection but you'll stink)

And pray, too!!

You'll still need to see a dentist-check around to find out where it's cheapest.

Try to find a free clinic.
An infected too is dangerous if not taken care of properly,it can lead to more problems because the infection can spread to the rest of your body.
tylenol doesn't help!
