The hatred only goes one way as Catholic Christians love even their enemies and the enemies of Christ's Church.
In Luke 21:17 Jesus says…
All men will hate you because of me.
And John 15:18, Jesus warns…
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
In Christ
Fr. Joseph
Mean Gene,
Catholics do not worship St. Mary. We only worship God. The Pope is only infallible in specific circumstances and has only declared specific teaching twice in the 2000 year history of the Church. Remember that infallibility does not mean impeccability. The bible teaches that priests are to forgive sins by the authority of Christ. The Bible does teach that there is a purgatory. Some Catholic priests do marry as I am a Catholic priest who is married. Celibacy is honored in the Church as many of the early apostles were unmarried like St. Paul, St. Barnabas and St. Polycarp. Not to mention that we have the example of Jesus who was unmarried. Once a priest vows celibacy he is expected to honor his vow. There is absolutely no evidence in history or the Bible that Jesus had any siblings. If Jesus had brothers why did He entrust the care of His mother to St. John and her into his care.
Earth Angel,
There is no Biblical teaching of "faith alone". In fact the Bible teaches quite differently than the Reformers. We are saved by His grace through faith but not by "faith alone". This is a heretical doctrine of the Reformers.
The Church does not believe that anyone but Christ saves.
Misplaced,
The saints are very much alive as Christ died so that they would have everlasting life just like you and I. They are the great cloud of witnesses the Bible speaks about and those lifting our prayers before the altar of God. God is the God of the living and not the dead.

I don't know if Protestants "hate" Catholics, it's just that the Roman Catholic Church denied that salvation was through faith in Christ alone during the Reformation, and if salvation is not taken care of by Christ alone, it is not taken care of period. That means the the current Catholic doctrine does not save anyone, and this most disturbing to Protestants. I don't think we hate anyone, let alone those who are so close to the truth, but it is the system that keeps people from truly coming to saving knowledge, so maybe it is the Catholic Church that some may hate. When good Catholics recognized the error during the time that became the Reformation, they only wanted to reform the heresy, not do away with the church. But because the church would not budge, it cursed all who would disagree and kept adding more junk to become the RCC of today. Back then, the first protesters (Protestants) thought that surely the Pope must be the Anti-Christ. Today, we all think it is an anti-Christ system, but not necessarily "THE" Antichrist. I would say to anyone that they should not be part of the Roman Catholic Church, but if they come to understand that salvation is only in Christ and not by the addition of any of our puny works, then they should most certainly come out of there and join a truly biblical church somewhere that teaches the Bible and trusts solely in Christ. The Pope, the RCC, Rome in Italy, nothing, saves except Jesus Christ.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! "MATT89" your answers were so funny milk came out of my nose and I am drinking water!! you must have decided all that on your own.... some of that stuff I have never heard until now...... you really need to do at least a little research..... you have the most spun view I have ever heard and I have heard a lot being a Catholic Apologist. Matt89 is a case in point. He obviously doesnt have the slightest clue about Catholics yet will openly bear false witness against the Church.(which violates the 10 commandments, but he doesnt seem to care about God's law) If Protestants really followed the bible they would all be Catholic. Everything About the Catholic Church is in the bible, everything. Kelly you are still young, but stay strong in the Faith. I confront Catholic Bashers on a daily basis and the following verse brings me much comfort. I think about it often. Matthew 10:22 You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved. May God keep you safe and may you stay Faithful. I and All Catholics will pray for strength for you. <<>>

It is an old war that makes that prejudice. It is against the teachings and principals of christ to do so but the hating catholicism thing began in the renessaince era. Catholicism was the reining religion that Europe had to follow and it was not as pure as christianity attempts to be. The hierarchy was corrupt and church positions were bought. Those who truly believed broke away to lead their own denominations and the catholicist leaders tried them for treason and blasphemy. All denominations have cleaned themselves out today, but the same hate of catholicism is the same. Noone knows why they hate catholics, they "just do." Its a learned behavior.

Most non Catholics aren't sure what god(s) you worship. With all the Saints, Mother Mary, The Pope, and last but not least, the Trinity. Several persons explained on another question that you do not pray to the Saints, instead you ask them to intercede for you, like you would ask a Pastor.
The big difference is: The Saints are dead! The last time I checked, the saints were not a ransom sacrifice for my sins, only Jesus Christ, the son of God.

The only bibical verses you quote are open-ended
John 15:19 If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.
The Catholics are definitely part of the world, so that scripture does not apply to them. The people disliking the Catholic faith are people of other (smaller) religions, and bystanders. Jesus was not killed by a splinter group of people, his death was instigated by one of the major religions of that time with the help of the Roman government. So it is with the Catholic Church, they certainly are not a "victim."

I don't hate Catholics. Half of my family is Catholic. But I don't believe we should worship Mary, or that the Pope is infallible, or that you have to confess your sins to a priest, or that there is a purgatory, or that priests shouldn't marry (Peter had a wife), or that Mary didn't have children with Joseph-Jesus's half siblings. There are some other reasons but these are enough for me.

I may not agree with some of their doctrine - like the unbiblical notion that Mary is co-redemptrix - but I don't hate them.

Go against jesus? Jesus didn't create any religion. Here is something from Matthew 23 to ponder about. Although there are no more Scribes and Pharisees, there are still priests, pastors and politicians in the religion of Christianity. The church, especially the catholic church are committing the same flaws as the Scribes and the Pharisees.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
