A ***** should have at least 10+ nipples. She should be able to feed them all the only thing is with that many pups your going to have to latch them on In. In other words when your ***** is laying on her side to nurse the pups. You have to place some of the pups on her bottom nipples, and some along the top. Within a week or so the puppies will have the hang of it on their own. But you should help guide them because they will all try to go for the same nipple if too close together and end up sucking on the side of one of her breast.

Normally yes, but if you are in doubt seek advice from a qualified person (there are free clinics).
We know others who get away with these large litters, and we have also seen their problems.
It also sounds like it might be her first litter, and I would deffinetly recommend a smaller litter size.
There are good comments in the other answers, one thing I will add, you do not drive a car at the highest RPM because it causes greater wear on the engine, just because your dog has 10 nipples does not mean that all should be used. Humans have two nipples, but how many humans have twins ?
What will happen is :-
1) You are more likely to loose some pups from various possiblities.
2) Typically 4 to 6 are genrally good guide for very healthy pups.
3) A ***** with 9 pups will NEED MORE than DOUBLE the food is she had 6 pups ! (50% more pups does not means just 50% more food !)
4) You are putting a lot of stress on the bitches metabalism, possible result is that she is more likely to suffer illness etc. (some are killers inside a matter of an hour or so -eclampsia)
We love our animals and do not like to (we have to remind ourselves at the time), but accept that it is better to have a healthy mum with 5 or 6 really lovely big healthy pups, than all the other possabilites.
It depends on type of bred, the ability of the breeding line. So although it is probable that she can bring up such a litter, I would not recommend it.
I think you should consider speeking to a qualified person.
Good luck.

Yes, she should be able to, but if you see that one of the pups is getting left out it would be an idea to maybe bottle feed that one and make sure that your smell doesnt get all over him.

The answer is yes, dogs are equipped to feed all their babies although you may find that one of them might be a runt and wont get so much as the others but thats not to say it will die. Just keep your eye on them all and if one's not getting fed you'll have to do it by hand, your vet will help you out with the necessary stuff for it. You've certainly got your hands full ha ha, lovely. Good luck x

My Sheepies have large litters too, but you must watch them carefully as the stronger ones can and will push the weaker ones aside, and you may think they are all being fed when in fact they are not. I always gave the smaller ones a wee bottle feed every time they were bawling for food, and I weaned them with soggy weetabix as soon as possible.

I had a blue heeler that had 9 pups and she did well. Just make sure to give her plenty of food. Watch the pups to make sure they are all gaining. If there is a tiny runt it would be better to bottle feed it or it will get pushed aside and probably starve.

We had a dog that had 11 and they all fed just fine some were a little smaller than other but all were healthy. Just like the other smaller litters of puppies we've had. Watch mom and puppies if any puppy appears to be left out you may need to help. If not Enjoy the Puppies.

as long as milk is coming out of all of her nipples she should be ok, but if I were you, I would check them every day and when they want to eat, do them seperate, like 4 at a time and then 5 at a time. also, I would still buy a milk replacement, you can get that at BIG R for pretty cheap, the powered kind is a better buy, you get more. and every once in awhile if there is a runt or one is not getting any milk for some reason feed them that with a bottle

Yep the mother can feed all of them, make sure you look out for the little guy that isn't getting fed as much. Maybe set him in a prime location so he can get some milk.
