Tetanus is the T in the DTP shots you got prior to school entrance. But since you sustained a deep, dirty wound, and if it is more than 5 years since your last booster, you should have another booster. Actually, your doctor might advise the Tdap booster that includes diphtheria and acellular pertussis vaccine. Furthermore, with this type of wound you are susceptible to other types of bacterial infections, too.

If this is the case, bite the bullet and get the shot. Tetanus, while rare in the USA, remains a nasty, nasty disease. And, for future reference, clean out any dirty wound as soon as possible, thoroughly.

The individual states determine what shots are needed for school, so it would depend on where you live. The odds are excellent that you've had a tetanus shot that's still actively protecting you--and slicing your foot or feet on glass is not the sort of injury that fosters tetanus. (That would be puncture wounds that seal shut at the entry point.)

Still, I bet that hurt like a son of a b----! Put some polysporin and band-aids on--and get some shoes!

tetanus IS included in your shots it is called the DTP shot. Diptheria- Tetanus-Polio. But if you haven't had one in awhile it wouldn't hurt to go get another one. Won't cost too much if that is the problem.

most schools require MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) for middle-school, and i have no idea about high school, mine didnt require any. Schools are mainly concerned with highly contagious diseases which can spread between students, which tetanus is not, unless some weirdo is running around stabbing kids with rusty nails. Good luck with your foot though!
