My mom doesn't know what she wants my daughter to call her. She hates Grandma, Nanny, and anything sounding old. At one point she was thinking Nana (pronounced Nah-na not Nay-na) but she's unsure. Please give us your suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oma is German for Grandma. It's a little different, but still means the same thing.

Check out other languages for more suggestions.

Our granddaughter calls my wife "Nana" and her other grandmother "Mimi." She calls me "Grad." The granddaughter picked these names. They were easy for he to say when she was learning to talk, and the names stuck. If you read Yahoo Answers much, you will see that parents and grandparents are called much worse things. Have your mother pick a name. I was at a kid function last fall, and many kids were calling for "Grandpa" but when I heard a voice calling for "Grad" I knew it was for me.

If your mom doesn't like nicknames or shortened or diminutive forms of grandmother, would she be alright with your daughter calling her by her name? Words in and of themselves don't sound old, it's how you feel about yourself that makes them seem that way in your mind.
