When in doubt, dress up. Monster.com has some great suggestions-like, go at lunch and watch the employees coming out. How are they dressed? If it's important, then wear a suit, a tie, if you're a guy. If you're a gal, a pant suit is acceptable, if you see other employees wearing them. Be sure to wear the jacket and limit your jewelry.

Dress casual but nice maybe some nice jeans and a nice t shirt and shoes if its an interview for a place where you will half to dress up when you work like an office inviroment dress up nice for it then so they will know how cleaned up you will be if they hire you. Dont act nervous stay calm and look them in the eyes the whole time this shows that you are a strong person and you listen to what they are saying. Makes sure if you give a handshake its a nice strong firm one and let them know just how lucky they would be to have you as employee. Good luck

You would dress differently for a job as a construction worker than in a bank. For the bank you would wear a suit. for construction you would dress clean but semi casual. for a non-profit organization you usually don't have to wear a suit but shoould wear 'business casual'. no runners. no jeans or cords. no sun dresses.
dont wear aftershave and if you have pierced ears wear a stud.
something that would help would be to pop into the place that is interviewing you and see what the culture looks like. dress one step up from them.
there are a lot of web sites on line that can help you with how to prepare. i will attach a few of them., bring 3 references (no family) if you haven't sent them in, arrive 10 minutes early and be polite to everyone, including the receptionist. they will often be asked an opinion of you.
let the interviewer set the tone. everyone is different. some joke around and others are very serious and expect you to sit up straight with your hands folded in your lap.
be prepared for more than one person to be in on the interviews if it is a career type job. if it is an after school type job it might be just 1 person and if it is for a job in a mall your interview could be done sitting on a bench in a hallway. be prepared for anything. and don't be afraid to brag about yourself without appearing over confident. NEVER LIE on your resume or at an interview. don't even exxagerate too much. if it comes back to bite you in the *** they can fire you

My interview clothes are: a pair of beige khaki pants, a gray button-up shirt with sleeves, and Doc Martens (nice looking shoes in good repair) that are clean. That's called 'business casual'. In addition, I make sure my hair is neat, not too long, and within the normal spectrum of human hair color, my teeth are clean, and my breath is decent. Looking like a hobo or the man from the mountain won't get you a job.
You should act like yourself. I assume that means that you are polite and professional. Please and thank you should be in your vocabulary. Be patient, if there are interruptions or delays. The person or people interviewing you may be important and have more things than you to deal with today. No swearing, smoking, or inappropriate gestures. Avoid the Big 3 workplace controversial conversation topics: religion, sex, and politics. You don't help yourself by polarizing your potential work place.

DON'T automatically assume you should wear a suit.
A good rule of thumb, is dress on step nicer than you'd normally be required to dress. If it's for a casual office job, then wear a dress up shirt and a tie. If it's for a record store job where you can wear what you want, wear a nice polo shirt and some slacks.
As for how you act, think about what you say before you say it. Be straightforward, honest, and professional.

Wearing a suit to an informal workplace would be overkill. Wearing jeans would be the opposite - you should wear something casual, neat and clean. Questions can range all over the map. Some may be job-related and attempt to assess your skills, some may be about you, your future plans, have you ever been arrested, stolen anything, etc. Always act friendly and smile - if the decision comes down to two equally qualified candidates, the one with a sourpuss will generally lose to someone with a smile or at least less of a sourpuss. Remember, they have to work with you, and if you've got "unhappy and rife with problems" written on your face... well, you get the idea.

Try a suit, white shirt, and tie. Act in a respectful manner. If you can find out something about the company in advance, so as to be able to ask questions, if given the opportunity.
