There is a very good possibility that my husband will be getting another job in Louisiana. If he gets it, then we will be moving from Ohio to Louisiana within 2-3 months. I have two small children 21 months and 5 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips on the best way to move with them, like how to handle 2-3 days on the road with them - how to keep them *and me* sane! How to occupy them, etc. Also, packing tips, what I will need on the road and what I will need once we get there before the movers get there. I am getting apprehensive about this. Please HELP!!

A new baby, congratulations. You will need a lot of help. Is there any way you and your kids with maybe a relative to help you, can you fly? Otherwise there will be many many extra stops. The baby has to be in a car seat when your driving, so there will be many stops for feedings, diaper changes. You will need a lot of healthy snacks and beverages. As far as packing as soon as you know your going to move, take action and get friends to help. Go through each room one by one. What goes, what can be sold or given away. Then start packing the things you don't need for the moment. Mark each box such as children's room, kitchen, bathroom, living room.
Remember to do your change of address at the proper time.
Check all your medications...for needs. Also movers can be off schedule. You will need clothes for a few days for all of you. Several day supplies for the baby. Toys for the toddler. Basic things for bathroom, kitchen..Get a large spiral notebook. Write down things that come into your head. Then you can cross them off. I will say this again. Ask for help during this process...Good luck!

I moved from Illinois to Mexico and back last year with two kids on the was there and three (under 5) by the time I came back. Have 1 bag be your "imediate use" bag. With small kids it might be awhile before you get to finish unpacking so have a bag of things you cannot do without and keep them together and label them well. The 5 week old still won't be big enough where there will really be a need to keep him/her entertained, but as far as your 2 year old goes I would say books and songs are nice. My son has something called a Video Now Jr. that is really great. He can watch movies on there, it uses batteries and is portable. Good luck!!

Well, with kids, I'd stick to a 8-10 hour driving day. Leave early, arrive early, each day. Get a hotel room, relax, go swimming, eat, etc. The 21 month old will be the one who is most frustrated. The baby can just be herself, and will be fine. Toys, crayons, sippee cups, crackers, cookies, and sleep for the toddler! Plenty of formula, diapers and baby wipes for both. Make the best of it.

If you're husband is young and strong, I'd say drive straight through!

it doesn't really take 3 days to get from ohio to louisiana but with little ones it probably will. why not make a mini vacation out of it? make a few stops along the way besides the usual reat stops. 1-to save your sanity and 2-to give them some time to explore.
you know your kids best and what they like.if there are things they need to sleep with ,bring it. there's misic, books, port.dvd players, snacks, drinks, toys and the obvious diapers and formula(if they take bottles)enjoy the trip. you may not get another for a while.

OH geez! If you've got a family member or good friend, ask for some help with the drive and offer to pay for a plane ticket home. This way - one of you could drive early morning or late night while they're sleeping. You tend to get more mileage that way.

As for being on the road, pack like you're on vacation. You might also want to pack certain things yourself - like toilet paper and bath towels.

Good luck!
