I am an 18 yr old African American. I've been perming my hair for about 5 years. After I get a perm I get new growth in 2 weeks later. My roots are really nappy and hard to manage in between perms, braids, and traxs.

I was interested in getting a curly perm. It looks really nice and managable. Is it okie to use a curly perm even though I've been using rgular relaxers for so long?

I permed over an old perm and my hair is breaking off. So be careful.

Unless you want to give yourself a chemical haircut, do not attempt to give yourself a home perm. You might be only to do a curly perm on the new growth since the chemical for relaxers and curly perms are incompatible. Best consult with a stylist who has done a curly perm for years, not a new graduate.

No you cannot right now. You would have to wait for your hair to grow completely out which takes about a year or so.
If you were to give yourself a curly with your pre-relaxed hair, it will fall out.
