The US victory in Iraq will look kind of like Oceania's victory in Eastasia or Eurasia.
BTW, Oceania and the US will both win their wars eventually. They just have to stay the course.

People have been asking this administration for years what this means. Its a cute general term that means we dont' know what the heck it is either.
They usually throw out, "until all terrorism is eliminated". Then we should attack Saudi Arabia! Thats where most terrorists are funded, and are from.
This is a political and financial war. They want to make Iraq our center post for the middle east to control the oil region. We will never leave. Victory? There is no victory.
If your driving in your car and you dont' have a destination, you just end up driving around in circles. Thats what this war is. 50 years from now the Americans that are here are going to look at this actions shaking their heads at how rational people could allow this.

Immediate victory: People stop killing each other while attacks towards Coalition forces are minimized.
Long term victory: The Iraqi government becomes a functioning democracy where its citizens adhere to the rule of law.

there will be no victory in iraq, not a long lasting one anyways. thats because you got the shia's and sunnis over there, they will never get along, so who ever wins will not be left unchecked and the other will continue to regain power.
if we (the united states) wanted to solve this problem the correct way, we should talk to other muslim countries that have the man power to take over our mission in iraq, that will solve the issue of non muslims in islamic land. alot of people dont notice that most (not all) arab countries see us as invaders not helpers. just an idea.

To me, victory at this point would be the US gradually pulling out of there, while also leaving Iraq in a fairly stable state.
I'd argue both of these would be needed for 'victory'. If we leave Iraq a complete mess, it will just come back to haunt us later.
(Also, victory to me would mean George W Bush getting impeached, and working at the french fry station at McDonalds for the rest of his life.)

When Iraqi citizens do not see us as the enemy. Which is pretty much impossible since the infrastructure has not been rebuilt, apologies have not been made from higher sources like Bush in regards to atrocities like the raped 14 year old girl and her family who were murdered by American soldiers, American oil profits handed over to the people of Iraq, getting the h*ll out of their country, massive peace making inititiatives by Jimmy Carter types, etc. etc. etc.

No women aren't the only ones that do that. I often find my self admiring someone else and feeling very envious of them. It may be low self esteem but I cant be sure. But everyone feels it sooner or later. Unless your one of those super perfect preppy types, or if you are happy with yourself. But not many people are happy with the way they look. With people being made prettier and prettier how can an average male feel comfortable in his own skin. I feel like I have to live up to all the perfect people. But I cant and I will just have to get use to that. I will be happy being me.

We will never be victorious in Iraq. Once we leave IF we ever leave...it will go back to the way it was before we got there..

Victory would mean the Iraqi people can put down any kind of insurgency from Iran, al queda or within its own ranks and manage its own country peacefully. To accomplish that we gotta train a lot of Iraqi soldiers and that takes more time then the American public is ever going to give.

The only even vaguely concrete definition I've seen is "when all sectarian violence ends in Iraq and the people have a stable democracy".
Which took the US 80 years -- and we STARTED with no internal sectarian conflict.
