Can existing Wndows XP programs be used on Windows Vista?

MS Office will migrate, but stand alone programs like AutoCAD won't.

Vista doesn't even use the same drivers as Windows XP, the changes in the OS are that basic and primary. If the drivers (very simple programs) don't work then imagine how something as complex as AutoCAD would translate.

The European Economic Community (EEC) filed suit against Microsoft last year for having a monopoly; again. The hope is that once again Microsoft will release some of its code so third party programmers can write programs that will work with the OS. Until MS does release more of its code it is going to be hard to write third party software for Vista (which is the whole idea; MS is a very greedy company).

I know that AutoCAD was written in C and after v13 they stopped trying to replace the OS and do it all themselves. So they could be in trouble if Vista changes too much of the basic system calls.

(If your version of AutoCAD doesn't work for you then I would love to have it. I am AutoCAD trained, but disabled so I am not up on the current versions.)

Lightning could strike and AutoCAD 2007 could work with Vista with no problems. Pigs could also evolve wings, I give about an equal chance for both.

I wouldn't recommend and upgrade to Windows Vista until after the first service pack is published. The OS is still too full of bugs, like all of the early versions of MS OS. They are actually still in Beta testing of Vista, they just made a whole lot of people involuntary Beta Testers.

Most likely no. Autocad 2007 will run on Vista only with a Vista update--check Autocad website for the patch. MS Office 03 is much too old but it might work, same thing for ACDSee 5. The surest way is to try the Installation and Vista will let you know if the programs will work or not.

Well, most can. I know that microsoft word 2001 worked on my, so I'm sure 03 would. I had a lot of xp programs and some wouldn't work, so I just ran them in compatibility mode for Win XP. Even then one or two just would not work, but I created an xp flash drive those, but your programs should work.
