I am going to try and guess why some Christians dislike evolution. Tell me if I am right or wrong Christians. While evolution does not disprove God, or even the Christian God, I think it does take away some of our significance. While humans are the most sophisticated species on Earth, that’s not good enough for some people. Some people want to think humans have a divine purpose. If evolution is right, then we are an accident that resulted from an accumulation of random genetic mutations. It makes us humans seem more like an accidental byproduct of God's creation rather than a direct creation that serves some divine purpose. It means we aren’t as special as we thought, and some people take offense to being told that they are nothing special as they thought. I am making an honest attempt to understand so please no hate rants or anti-evolution evidence.

Here is a link to a write up on Dr. Anthony Flue, one of the all time great atheists who recently became convinced through of all things his scientific study that evolution is a lie and there is a creator. It is a fascinating and lifelong transformation from atheist to theist, one that dares an atheist to say to the good doctor: "The only reason you believe in God is because you've been brainwashed."

http://theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/21PbAr/Apl/FlewTheist.htm

Dr. Flue is more educated than most of us. He's older. He has more life experience, more scientific knowledge. WHEN he was an atheists he was proudly quoted as an authority. A Christian who DARED question the good doctor was mocked as a fool! Now that the same brainiacal doctor is in our camp, who dares poo poo his knowledge, experience, and credibility? :-)

There is a key distinction to make between micro evolution and macro evolution. Most people who SAY they believe in evolution have NO IDEA what they are truly saying that they believe in. (Sadly, that's true of many Christians who SAY they believe in God.) Anyway ... micro evolution would be along the lines of people in colder climates becoming increasingly hairy over time. Such evolution has to do with nature, survival of the species, practicality, common sense, etc. The critical point of THIS type of evolution is that it is WITHIN a given species.

Macro evolution on the other hand says that an ameba can turn into a fish and a fish can turn into a monkey and a monkey into a man. There is absolutely NO scientific evidence for this. Darwin and others simply noted the existance of many species and the similarity between certain bones--e.g., a human hand and a birds wing--and concluded, THERE MUST BE A LINK! But ... if God is the creator of all things and He created a great design--and the hand IS an engineering marvel!--then why wouldn't he resuse that idea? Don't we see people "borrowing" other people's ideas, extending their use? Don't we?! Darwin didn't believe in God; so, a Biblical explanation was simply out of the question. When you have TWO possible explanations side by side, battling for your belief, that's one thing. But when your doubt removes one explanation before the contest ever started, that's quite another. Believe it or not, but there is simply no scientific evidence for the existence of macro evolution or species turning into other species. Scientists admit this more every day. In a recent conversation one admitted to the other that they jumped on Origin of Species because ... are you ready? If there is no God then they could have all the sex they wanted to without guilt! Darwin gained a following because scientists are horny. Nice!

I cannot convince you of ANYTHING. But I tell people all the time that it actually takes less faith to believe that this was all created than it does to believe that it all happened by accident. I am a systems analyst by trade. Systems are things that work together for an outcome. Every system I analyze has a design AND a designer; e.g., an assembly line, an automated process, etc. I could enumerate 100s upon 100s of systems within systems that make up the human body, the earth, and the cosmos. For someone to believe that it all works in this beautiful, cosmic, unimaginable way, but that it also happens but luck or chance is ... simply put ... a fool. I hope you wise up before it's too late. It will be MUCH more pleasant for you to realize that God is real while you walk the earth than to have that be your first surprise in the afterlife.

The primary reason SOME Christians dislike evolution is because the simply teaching of the Scriptures clearly say that God Himself created the Earth, and all that is on it. This teaching isn't difficult to find being in the first 2 chapters of the first book in the Bible.

Of course the details are many omitted. But the thesis is straightfoward- God made it all and in steps. The Scriptures tell that God made birds (not God turned dinosaurs into birds). The ancient Hebrew clearly distinquishes between creating something completely new and making something different out of existing materials.

That's the simple answer. For me it is the real reason I doubt this popular mechanism.

OK valid question

1)I'm a Christian and an Evolutionist

2)The theory of evolution does not diminish the significance of God or His Power one bit. I believe God created us through evolution. I also believe that we are a pretty special part of His creation. To be honest i think its all special from bacteria to human beings everything is unique and beautiful.
Still most Christians acknowledge the fact that given the Wonders of God and His Creation w are only dirt, just big chunks of Carbon like everything else, there is nothing against Christian philosophy in man being "small".

Hope i helped you understand better.

To finish here's a quote i really enjoy:

"If one could conclude as to the nature of the Creator from a study of his creation it would appear that God has a special fondness for stars and beetles." J.B.S. Haldane

(There are more than 300.000 species of beetles in our planet)

That is only a tiny fraction of the contention over evolution. There are not any half way anything creatures today and certainly no concrete evidence of them in the past, despite claims of humans with withered tail spine. Giants and men with extraordinary longevity could well have existed ,evolution or not because the gene pool would not have been anything like as contaminated at the dawn of their creation, as it is now. Yet you are perfectly right, no concrete evidence but only faith. That is faith that evolutionary theory is true or faith that precisely programmed life came of design rather than second guessing trial and error. Talking donkeys is unprovable as well ,though life is filled with talking serpents in all sorts of guises. So you make a good point all of the things you mention are so far unprovable, therefore entirely a matter of faith in whoever you believe. You win the argument and I agree on present day evidence of both evolution and special creation being based on faith not demonstrable fact.

How does it not disprove the existence of the Christian God? It takes away from the entire story of our creation and how God created man in His own image. Don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think that mutations are not possible and that survival of the fittest is not a a true concept but I, dispite what others might think, still do not believe there is enough proof to prove that we evolved from apes. Sorry, but to answer your question, no it doesn't make us feel less special, it would disprove our entire belief in the creation of the world:)

Absolutely wrong. I believe because I am not a fool...Given the "theory of Evolution" or believing in a Creator,,,,I choose to look around me and know that all this complex world had to have a Creator..Answer questions below, please...A Christian can...

"Which came first, the chicken, or the egg?"

Symbiosis_------ another qustion I have for you..
IF all life gradually evolved from simple to complex, how can you explain TWO life forms, living together, in a "symbiotic relationship"; each one unable to survive without the other?

You and I could not live without the helpful bacteria in our bodies. Which came first, the bacteria, which cannot live apart from our bodies, or our human bodies?

Flowering fruit and nut trees cannot live without bees and insects to pollinate them. Which came first, the plants, or the bees

Throughout all nature, there are countless examples of symbiosis—two completely different life forms, each one contributing to the survival of the other. Obviously, they HAD to come into existence at the same time!

Explain: The humble Lichen

Prove your case...

Not sure how I feel about evolution, I am a Christian and in being so I believe that however God wanted the world to develop it was his choice in doing so. That being said we were made in his image, so that was not an accident. One thing about evolution though if we evolved from "whatever" into what we are now, Where did the "whatever" come from?

Most in fact think that the Theory of Evolution states, "God does not exist, a monkey actually went behind a rock and by chance a human popped out, Christians are retards and their parents are fat midgets."

When I thought about what you said, I accepted it easily. I don't think many people would actually freak out about it. I mean, it's pretty obvious when you think about your day to day experiences. Then you look at birds or something, who fight one minute and then forget it the next minute. Then you think, "Being a Human sucks."

Besides, Humans are no different from animals and as such still have to follow the Laws of Nature

I am a christian, I do not believe in evolution. If God had not made humans, then why is it that we are the only species that has a need to worship something? everywhere you go on this globe, different tribes, nations, every culture believes in something, even if it's not all the same, everywhere you go there will be a belief in a higher power. now evolutionists who do not believe in creation, cannot explain that.

Angry angry people. sorry I had to interject. I believe you are partly if not wholly correct. if evolution is true it would diminish their authority over the universe. if though someone does believe that God created Adam from dust or mud or whatever, then they must believe that the rest of the bible is factually true including that the earth is only about 5000 years old and God never created dinosaurs. But if it is not true then we came from monkeys and no one wants a monkey in their family tree now do they.
