Brad's answer needs some clarification. If you are retired from the military you can wear your uniform in a Veterans' Day parade. You can also wear it at other military functions like the Marine Corps Birthday ball and the like.
Once you are discharged (not retired) you are no longer subject to the UCMJ. Only retirees can be recalled to active duty for punitive action under the UCMJ.
If you do wear your uniform for activities not sanctioned like the ones mentioned above, you might face civilian criminal prosecution. One gentleman, who was discharged as an E-4, has shown up to a lot of military-type functions at the Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman's Club in Manhattan in the uniform of a Lieutenant Colonel, complete with false ribbons and medals on his chest. He will be prosecuted under the recently-enacted Stolen Valor Act.

Yes you do get to keep them. Despite Brad's comments I would like to say that you can wear your uniform after discharge. Veteran's Day and Memorial Day parades and functions are a good example.

As a retiree performing military funeral services, I have been asked a number of times by the military spouse to wear my uniform for the service and I did so in respect to her wishes and in honor of the deceased. If not acceptable by the defunct UCMJ which is doing a helluva lot for our troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom, so be it. I fought in the uniform and served America for 3 decades. It's mine and I wear it proudly in honor of our heroes.

Uniforms are not generally returned to the military, however if you are no longer on active duty or in the reserves, you are not allowed to wear the uniform for any occasion.

Wearing uniform parts does not get much attention, normally! However, to wear an entire uniform is not lawful under the UCMJ. As a former military participant, you are subject to UCMJ rules, this being one of them !

yeah, I still have all my navy uniforms. Why would you not get to keep them? The cost of your uniforms is deducted from your pay in boot camp.

Yes.....you paid for them. I have all my uniforms.

edit: brad is incorrect. You are still allowed to wear your uniform under certain conditions even after you are no longer enlisted.
