Retaurants tend to make cocktails a bit on the strong side, but if you're at home, (or if the waiter is willing to listen) here are some good recipies that are light in alcohol and rich in taste.
If you like fruit flavors, try a bottle of Hypnotiq. It's a vodka, cognac and fruit juice liqueur that is low in alcohol content but is still flavorful. It's blue in color so it makes for great presentation. Or Midori, which is a Japanese Melon liqueur, again, low in alcohol content. Midori is sweet, so be careful not to use too much, or it may overpower your drink.
If you like tropical flavors, try a 'Sea to Sky':
Ingredients:
1 shot of Hypnotiq
1 shot pineapple juice
1/2 shot of organge juice
1/2 shot of mango juice
Method:
Shake vigorously with lots of ice. Top with a splash of lemon juice. Garnish with a delicate slice of pineapple or lemon for color contrast.
Or try a 'Green Envy':
Ingredients:
1 shot Midori Melon Liqueur
1 shot of Apple Martini Mixer
1 shot of Sprite/7Up
Method:
Shake Midori and Apple martini mix vigorously in a shaker with lots of ice. Add 1 shot of sprite/7up afterwards. This will give the drink a fruity and bubbly foundation. Splash with lime juice. Garnish with a thin slice of green apple or frozen gooseberries at the bottom of the martini glass.
Last, for something that's rich you can go with the ever-popular Chocolate Martini:
Ingredients:
1/2 shot of your favorite Vodka
1/2 shot Creme de Cacao
1 shot Chocolate Liqueur
1 shot of half-and-half
Method:
Shake vigorously with lots of ice. Garnish with chocolate shavings. (Take a chefs knife and scrape the back of a large size Hershey's bar. You can also use their special dark if you like it richer.) Dust the rim of the martini glass with sugar. (Wet the rim of the martini glass with a lemon wedge and roll the glass through a small bowl of sugar.) Last but not least, top with raspberries. (They go pretty well with chocolate to begin with.
Before serving any of the martinis mentioned, be sure to place the martini glasses in the freezer. Then when you're ready to serve, they will be nice and frosted. I always like my martinis extra cold. Especially in the summer, always be sure to fill your shaker with lots of ice. You can always change the proportions of the liquor to match your taste.
Hope that helps. Enjoy!

when you order a drink you can tell your waiter not to put the whole required amount of alcohol in the drink. ask for 1/2 or even less of the amount. I have done this before.
