so now i'm worried. i noticed it this morning @ around 6am. she's already potty trained, but she's peed in the house & in her crate twice today. she doesn't seem to be in pain, no crying or anything, but she has been somewhat lazy. i called my vet but apparently they are closed now, & i don't want to wait too long.

could it be a urinary/bladder problem? how serious is it? does it require surgery or just medicine? is there anything i can/should do until tomorrow?

10 pts to whoever makes me feel better & answers my questions :]

I adopted an English Bulldog from the local shelter who had the same symptoms. She was initially treated for a Urinary Tract Infection. Within a day or two we did x-rays for something else and my vet found that she had bladder stones. He did surgery to remove them and she took antibiotics. She was better within days. it sounds like your dog has a simple UTI though, and that can be treated with antibiotics. You may need to change her food too (ask your vet first).

You can wait until the morning to see your regular vet. I wouldn't pay the extra for 24 hour to see a vet you don't even know with only these symptoms. Brittany had the stones for some time before I got her. That's not to say it is not urgent though. Call your vet as soon as they open. Any good vet will get her right in.

My vet DID say I could offer her cranberry juice if I wanted to but that not many dogs will drink it. It won't cure the problem but will help. It is important offer all the water your dog will drink too.

I hope this has reassured you! You shouldn't loose any sleep over it at this point. She is lucky to have you!

Your dog most likely has a urinary tract infection. If you're a chick - you know how uncomfortable these can be and how often you feel like you need to pee. She is feeling the same thing. The bladder wall gets inflammed and irritated and the bladder can't hold as much and the irritation makes you think you have to go all the time.

Take her to your vet in the morning. Try not to let her pee before the appointment so they will be able to collect a sample. They should do a urinalysis and some will recommend a culture and MIC to know what bacteria are growing and what antibiotic will best kill it.

Typical bacterial UTI's are caused by staph, strep (normal inhabitants of the skin) and enterococcus and e-coli (from fecal contamination). Be sure to follow your veterinarians recommendation accordingly. Do not miss treatments of antibiotics and don't discontinue the antibiotics earlier because she seems to be doing better. Doing this can cause the bacteria to become antibiotic resistant.

Animals don't show pain the way people do. Sometimes them just "not acting themselves" is a sign of pain. In the wild, an animal that shows pain is preyed upon, so many hide their pain because of this. Unfortunately there are no safe OTC pain meds you can give her to make her more comfortable as many of the OTC drugs we take can cause liver and kidney damage, gastrointestinal ulcers and perforations to the GI tract.

You didn't not cause this to happen, it's just something that happens. She is uncomfortable, so it's best to have her seen as soon as possible.

Hmmm..Let's have a look at. I work for a vet and simply final week we had an intact male German Shepherd canine introduced in for blood in his urine. Actually, he was once peeing blood with some urine in it. Turns out the canine has testicular cancer, along with a mass in his prostate, and a big tumor on his spleen. He is having surgical procedure this week to have as much of those plenty removed in hopes of giving him SOME best of lifestyles, although there are no guarantees. So if you want to stay online and look for answers then so be it, but when *I* had been this dogs proprietor i'd be hauling butt to the VET to have it checked out.

I would definitely try and get her into a vet, even if it is not your regular vet. It could be a urinary tract problem. No, she will not need any kind of surgery, just medications-probably pills you'll have to give her.

Sounds like she has a urinary tract infection.. She'll need antibiotics from the vet. No surgery ... You can give her garlic and cranberry capsules tonight til you get to the vet tomorrow.. It will make her not feel irritated and she won't have to feel like she needs to pee all the time.

It could be urinary tract or bladder infections. I would definately get her to the vet as blood in the urine is not good or normal.

sounds like a urinary tract infection, or a kidney infection, stones...
keep her super hydrated until you can get her to a vet. Or if overly concerned, take her to an emergency vet.

Relax, she could be having a false pregnancy. The female dog will act like she is in heat and the like she is pregnant, but she is not. However if you adopted her, and the previous onwers said that she was "spayed" take her to your vet and have her checked yourelf. I had a female dog that ended up having puppies, because her former owners told us she was "fixed" and they even had the vet papers to prove it.

The dog needs to see a vet. It is PROBABLY a UTI and medication will be a fix. HOWEVER, bladder stones and other problems need to be ruled out.
