Anydog is good. but minis are full of energy. if you watch the dog whisperer you will get good tips on having a mentally balanced dog. Make sure you are the leader of the pack. remember they are friendly but also full of spunk

Mini Doberman Pinschers do not exist. The breed is called Miniature Pinchers and they are a completely different breed than Dobermans.
Min Pins may or may not be good for a first timer depending on the owner themselves. Min Pins are protective and can be stubborn, so the owner needs to be on top of it, but other than that they are relatively good dogs. I however, have had negative experiences with them.

Miniature pinschers are great little dogs. They are clean and easy to care for as far as grooming and maintenance. They are, however, not recommended for the first time dog owner. They have very outgoing, aggressive personalities, and are inclined to be opinionated and stubborn. They are also challenging in the potty-training department. If there are small children involved, they can be even more of a worry, as they can become crabby, impatient, and nippy.
Because of these amusing traits in minpins, there are many turned into shelters and rescue every year. Most of the issues come from lack of experience with the breed, or lack of awareness of their traits.
If you would like a great small to mid-sized dog that is easy to train, obedient, good wit children, and a great companion, I would suggest a sheltie.
Welcome to the world of dog ownership! I am sure you will enjoy it!

There is no such thing as a Mini-Doberman. I'm assuming you are referring to a Min-Pin -- which has NO Doberman Pinscher in it's bloodline.

Until you understand the breed better, I'd recommend getting a fish.

I agree completely with anne b. I own 2 Miniature Pinschers myself and they are great. I have grown up with dogs all my life. They are easy going, rambunctious and aggressive all in one little package. I would not recommend a Miniature Pinscher to a first time dog owner. They will keep you busy most of the time. They have such a free spirit. They can be alot of trouble for the wrong owner. They are very easy to keep clean.
My very first Miniature Pinscher I got when he was 11 weeks old. He is now 2 and he is just as hyper as he was as a puppy if not more and he is not really friendly with strangers. He has his own way of becoming your friend , if he wants to. I had a friend over and she wanted to meet my Miniature Pinschers. I introduced her to my female first, then I brought my male down. I had let her know that he was aggressive towards most strangers. I had a muzzle on him for my friends safety and his. She sat on the floor next to him . I'd say within 5 minutes, he was showing her affection. I was very surprised. After about 15 minutes, I removed his muzzle and when it came time for her to go home, he was her best friend. His name is Skittle Bug.
My secong Miniature Pinscher, I got in September 2006. She is so very laid back, but she is precautious to strangers. She is not stranger aggressive like my male. I got her when she was 2. She is now 3. I have had her for almost a complete year now.
There is a site I like to recommend that has lists of dog breeds. Both purebreds and mixed breeds. It may be helpful to you in your search for your first dog.

If you do however decide to get a Miniature Pinscher, do lots and lots of research before you get one. They are a fun breed and I myself wouldn't trade my minpins for anything in the world.

There are NOT "mini" Dobermans. They are Miniture Pinchers....a TOTALLY seperate breed and NO they are not good for first time owners!!!! They are VERY high-strung, bark, and tend to suffer severe seperation anxiety!!!! Start with another breed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
