Well, this may sound pathetic,(because I'm 14 gahh) -- but I'm deathly afraid of going to the dentist. Since I'm going to the dentist in a few days because of a very small cavity, I want some stories or stuff about what happened..

Hi! I have been in dentistry for over 25 years. And the best compliment I get is my patients say, "Hey! I didn't feel that!" No shot needs to hurt. I put a topical gel on the site and let it sit for 1-2 minutes. Then I use a small bore needle and go very very slow. The pinch is the same as if I gently pinched you arm. I tell my patients, if you feel more than this, and I pinch the back of their hand, the filling is free. So far I never had to do a free filling unless I wanted too. LOL If you have a tiny cavity you won't even need novacaine. So relax, calm down, you will be fine, I promise. Marie

There is no need to worry. The dentist will explain what he will do and then rub some numbing gel on your gum. When he needle is inserted you won't feel it and then as the anesthetic is injected it will be a very faint sting. Keep you eyes closed and try to relax as best you can it will be over in about 10 seconds. The dentist will then drill away the rotten area and fill it with a suitable substance. If anything hurts raise a hand and stop the dentist and he will give you another injection.

Don't stress you will be fine

Your dentist will probably rub some gel on the spot where
the injection is going to go so you won't feel it. when you
get the injection you may feel some pressure as the liquid
goes into the site. Then the area will be numb, so it will feel
like when your foot goes to sleep. I actually think it's easier
to get shots in the mouth than anywhere else, because they
don't get your arm or butt numb before they give the shot....
and you will probably want to keep your eyes closed.
It's not hard, relax, you'll be fine. Good luck...

You know if the cavity is small, maybe you will not need local. However if you do we put topical on your gum first to numb the area then the anesthetic so you do not feel it. We also have nitrous for people who are just deathly afraid and do not want the local.

A little sting, a little burning, but certainly nothing unbearable. Actually, your worry or fear about it is much worse than the shot itself. Relax.

Well I really have no knowledge because last time I had a shot in my mouth, I was about eight and was hysterical. XP
