How long have you got? Working in Internal Affairs I know that most cops are basically honest people trying to do a difficult job. Sometimes they lie when they just KNOW that someone has committed a crime but they know the evidence is quite good enough for Court (where defence lawyers will pull every trick to get their guilty client off). Sometimes they will lie to get themselves out of trouble - but I find that most cops I investigate are refreshingly honest and prepared to own up when they make a mistake. Some are just bad people as we reflect the society we serve.
But as I say, the majority are decent, hard working peopl. Don't let the actions of a few cause you to judge the many.

Why do people lie when they are pulled over?...ask a cop how many times they have been lied to! You wont believe the things people will say (lie) trying to get out of trouble!

Why would they be expected to be any different then the rest of the world? Do you believe everything you are told? Is every word out of your mouth the truth?
Can you be more specific as to what lies are you concerned about? The US Supreme Court has decided long ago that police officers can lie. Perhaps that is you concern?

as you get older you realize that cops are just people. Like any "GROUP" of people, some of them are Cool, and some of them are @ssholes, I've had cops REALLY break my ball's for no real reason, and other times they've busted me red handed EX. "Open container of Beer", "Got popped smoking a joint", etc., and they have let me go, seeing as I had valid "I.D." and no wants or warrant's, and I did'nt lie to them.

Just to get you to talk. Its really to much trouble for them to lie on a report. They kind of deal with their own 3rd degee. Unless they have to save the whole dept. or don't want to deal with a bunch of paperwork at shift change. Which usually benifits the criminal.(they "arrest" and let go on O.R. or citation, ((but never really take in.))

Why do people lie?
There are those in every job, every income bracket who lie. Most in every group don't.

Why? The cops have a job ot do. And they get into trouble for doing it wrong, so they lie to keep their clean record. And yes they were bullied as kids, so now they bully back. Don't take their crap. Record them if possible, it is legal. They are just a bunch of punks.
