can it be done? yes. will it be easy? NO. Needs of the Navy always take precedence. You will not be allowed to take any college courses while in Boot Camp, A and C schools. If you get assigned to a ship your first duty station, there may be civilian instructors who go on the deployment with you and teach classes while gone(this is typically the larger ships like Carriers and Gators). Shore duty, you will typically have much more time available to you to pursue an education.
Depending on how much college credit you already have, you might be competitive for STA-21. this is where you get a 4 year degree in three years, all on the Navy's dime while attending college and ROTC full time. You can apply for that once you hiot the Fleet.

Every case is different. My recruiter told me that I was joining the navy and I would be on a Ship. 7 yrs later and I am still begging for my chance to "see the world" all of my duty has been state side and I have never even seen the inside of a ship. I have had plenty of opportunity to go to school. Some have joined the navy and have not had the time. I have a friend that put in an officer pkg and was selected. The program that he was selected for allowed him to remain on act duty and go to school full time. He got to pick the school of his choice and was paid his navy pay i'm sure he had a deadline to complete school but that's just another option.

Well, pick navy for college might not be the best way right now, first of navy just approve more stright funding for tuition for college, while yes college credit does matter in the navy enlites because it gaves u point for advacement. Most of first timer will had a hard time to attend college all the time while in the navy. Because of off going sea. Many job in the navy, you will not feel like to get a book to study for test after 15 hours of work everyday. I am serious, but i do see few people manage well, still get their books done in the navy, get degree etc,, but usually only if their get to be certain rank which allowed them more free time, but most folks in navy get their serious college done while in shore duty. because is is a flexible schedule most of time. My suggestion to you pick a rate that's best suitable for college opportunity to due their working hours. Administrate rate like YN, LN and IT are good choice, because their job can help your college major as well.

it is possible no matter where you are.
of course you need to be out of bootcamp and your schooling for what ever it is you go in for.
my husband is in the seabees: way different from being a Sailor.... with the seabees you are a construction battalion.
you never go out on a ship. people think of the navy and assume "ship"
my husband and i are stationed in california> no not san diego, again that is the "sailor home port" we are staioned in one place and he leaves to places for 6months at a time. then comes back for 10months........
while on deployment they offer certain classes and schooling no matter where you are. he was in guam and went to work 6am-5pm and class from 7pm -9pm.
then while you are at your homeport they offer classes all the time or you can go to the local college. the navy encourages you to go to school... plus you can only move up in rank so far without an associates degree in something.
also my husband is going to be leaving for africa and they just told him that they were offering some classes on the base there too!!!
if you join the navy. join the seabees! mention it to the recruiters

hi, this is no longer uncommon at many schools for this to ensue. the main ingredient is that it seems slightly strange if the pupil is in an all-freshman Res. corridor. i might seek for on-campus ideas that permit for freshman and upperclassman to be mutually, or that throughout particular have a 21 and up living decision with underclassman. That way you will nonetheless see/be invited to a intense point of recent pupil courses, yet on an analogous time you're able to have exposure to human beings that are of your very own age. that's lots greater common to have it ensue at better state colleges. in basic terms understand no longer being the device who's in basic terms enjoyed because of the fact he/she buys liquor for the fish.

I did...but I was on shore duty and it was a lot easier for me to go. My command was also VERY pro-education....it was all about off duty education.
THere are also a TON of schools that have special programs for military. When I was in Hawaii I went to Hawaii Pacific University and they actually had classes down in Pearl Harbor.
I can't honestly say anything about school if your are assigned to a ship. I know that it is harder....but that's all I can say.

If you join anytime soon, expect deployment to the middle east for awhile. The needs of the military come first. Sounds harsh, but there is a war going on.
