I have a factory ford CD player in my 2005 Ford Crown Vic. I used wire taps to connect the unit to an external amp for subwoofers and the remote wire to the external amp. A couple of days after I did this, the CD player stopped working. When I push the volume knob, the time comes on briefly before going off and the disc inside the player ejects and loads with no problem, the stereo tuner and CD player just doesn't function. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what the problem could be.

My guess is that your remote wire was connected to the radio's accessory power wire, and your remote wire has shorted and caused a blown fuse in the vehicle fuse box. Disconnect your remote wire, then check the vehicle's radio fuse. If it's blown, replace it; then find the problem with the remote wire before you connect it again. It might not be a bad idea to put your own 1 amp fuse on the remote wire near the connection point.

look on the face of the radio, if it does not have a removable head or remove the head if it does and look for a small hole big enough for a bent paper clip to fit into, inset a straight wire into the hole and gently push, this will reset the cd player to default. see if that works for you.

it sounds like a power problem and your fuse aint handling it so its like a kill switch and it turns it off or it could be a simple wire missing or fallen off
