I agree. Joe Biden and Chuck Hagel have been talking about this for well over a year. Split it, make sure oil shares are equal and get the hell out. It wasn't all that long ago it was three separate entities anyway.

I don't really like this plan. It is divided like this Kurdish north, Sunni middle, and Shiite south. If we split Iraq in half then we are still given a large portion of oil to Iran with the rich south. It's an okay plan but a few details have to be worked out.

Not forcing them to split, but allowing them to spit.
I think it's an excellent mid-term (10~20 year) solution. It resolves much of the current problem, and ensures that even if "bad guys" take over part of the country, they won't be taking over all of the country.
Given that the Iraqi population is not ready to accept one dominant democractically chosen leadership -- allowing them to exist as separate groups is the only practical goal for now.

My thoughts are that in the end the Iraqis are the only ones who can get this worked out - one way or the other. Don't be surprised if it takes decades before the fur stops flying - with or without our presence.

absolutely everyone has an opinion. we are no longer sheep,we are able to think of for ourselves and interpret diverse meanings from what we examine. Ergo inspite of the incontrovertible fact that absolutely everyone seems to be interpreting from the comparable e book, some people end a diverse meaning than others, this has led, over the centuries to sects/diverse colleges of thought. This branch isn't unique to Islam, Christianity,Judaism,et al,all have sects in the stronger umbrella.

It was already looked at a couple years ago. I haven't heard anything about it since then so I assume the plan some how fell through.

Leave and let them decide. Eventually, a dictator will rise up that will squash all uprisings and hopefully be friendly with the States.

To the West, sound logical. To the East it would only produce more violence.
