Does anyone have any tricks that I might try to get it to work? I truly dread the thought of returning it and having to fill out that refund form *and* deal with the suspicious looks. Too stressful.

Well, you get what you pay for.
I mean, the most evil guy in the universe is willing to pay top dollar for a good soul (money, fame, women, power, you name it, he'll pay it), and you got a soul for a lousy buck. It probably belonged to a cave man who had traded two sharp spears and one dull knife for it.

You get what you pay for. :) You could always try giving it to 'God' . . . but then again, there'd be a huge battle for your soul between all the gods floating around. Maybe you should just ask if they'll let you exchange it for a crossword puzzle book or a bag of chips.
