My friends, who do not speak Japanese or know the language, told me it meant "beloved friend" but lately I've been wondering what it really means in Japanese. Please help me find the answer.

okay, suki (好き / すき) is generally used to mean 'to like' the word is actually 好きな /すきな, so it depends on the context which one you use. If you could give a sentence, i could help more.

あなたが好きです。 i like/love you

バナナが好きです i like bananas

Those go after a characters name. they show the relation one person has with another. Chan is a female that you now as a friend. You could say Kiri (first name that popped into my head ^-^)was your friend. You could say "Hi Kiri Chan!" Or " whats up Kiri Chan!".Kun is used to show the same relation as Chan except it is for a boy.Sama is a more formal or respectful way to greet someone. It's like saying "good morning master Foo" (sorry Foo is a bad name isn't it >.<)Try looking it up in a foreign dictionary.

it really depends how you spell it...and since you and your friends don't speak japanese that could be an incorrect spelling. (no offense or anything) i'm going to guess this one you're talking about is the one that means "like". there would be another word "dai" that you would add on to the front to mean to like a lot or love.

Suki means "to like". It is usually used in a sentence such as "Nihon ryori suki desu." I like Japanese food.

It has several different meanings, but the one you are probably thinking of means "like", as in "I like sports."

well, er... suki it means like, or love. You can say i love you or i like pizza with it. it's written 好き. a homophone of it is suki, written like 隙 and i guess that means opening...? i dunno but 好き is what i think of when i hear suki.
