Many animals sleep in this position. One, because it incloses their stomach and tender underparts and protects them from attack and two, It is warmer and the only position that allows them to cover themselves with their tail for more warmth.

To give greater protection to the body and vital organs by keeping the skeleton on the outer side, also to conserve body heat, just as we humans curl up when it's cold. If they curl up they're less likely to be detected or disturbed.

To keep warm. One cold night I looked at my friends dog doing just that. I was cold and remarked to my friend that I wish that I could curl up on the floor like that and do that with my nose. His reply? "If you give hime biscuit he`ll probably let you".

Possibly to conserve body heat - they're making themselves into a cute little ring of dog.

Cause in the wild they would sleep in a small den.. You would have to curl into a small ball in order to sleep in a den..

Why do you sleep on your back, or your front, or on your side or in a foetal position? Because its comfortable ha ha. Its got nothing to do with anything suspicious!

I think they do that because, one, it's comfortable for them, and two, it is probably their fetal position. Kind of like when a human curls up into a ball when they sleep sometimes.
