Everyone has someone or something they worship in life. As Christians we worship God. Atheists, having no spiritual deity, usually worship material things such as houses, cars, money or things such as drugs or sex. Think about it.

What I am saying friends is that I have the sense to realize that there is more to life than mere material possessions and that serving God and helping others comes first.

James my friend, you seem to be sadly mistaken. Haven't you ever heard of idol gods. Ever since the beginning of time man has worshipped material or idol gods. The worshipping of idol gods is even mentioned in the bible. Even until this day you have people that worship temples, statues, medallions, etc, etc. What ever a person worship or admires most becomes their god. Even in our society we have people who put their homes, money, or cars above everything else in life. You better wise up friend. Peace.

Amen.

Man is certainly crazy. He could not make a mite, and he makes gods by the dozen.

That is absolutely the most untrue statement regarding me, and dare I say, all atheist ... ever.

I worship nothing. The fact that everything at any given moment, including my life can be taken at any moment compels me.

Religion is rooted in the belief that people through a proxy (GOD) can control things that are beyond their control. They believe that through things like obedience and prayer, that their will is enough to sway reality. This is not true... if it were, all praying people would no doubt be millionaires in perfect health and never die.

The fact that I can cope and even prosper in life knowing that I am not in control baffles you.... so you have to invent the notion that I must worship money, houses cars and women. While I do value those things, I can do well without them... and even prosper.

It's called perspective. Try to get some.

1. reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred.
2. formal or ceremonious rendering of such honor and homage: They attended worship this morning.
3. adoring reverence or regard

This is the definition of worship. Atheists do not worship anything. And are you seriously saying that Christians don't like houses, cars, money, drugs or sex????? Kind of a dumb question, isn't it?

except we don't and you're kidding yourself if you think xians don't care for material wealth, drugs or sex. George Bush anyone - he's got most of those covered

which makes you either very ignorant or a liar

which is it! come on!

actually to continue - you're pathetic - you have such a desperate need to worship something that you have to assume that everyone else has your weakness.

Aloha caveman,

I am a secular humanist. We do not 'worship' any gods as you define them. I recommend perusing the definition of humanism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism If atheists and free thinkers worship anything it is their fellow man (as well as logic)

An Atheist loves himself and his fellowman instead of a god. An Atheist knows that heaven is something for which we should work now -- here on earth -- for all men together to enjoy.
— Madalyn Murray O'Hair

Man's inhumanity to man will continue as long as man loves God more than he loves his fellow man.
— Joseph Lewis, (1889-1968)

I am certain and have always stressed that the destination of mankind is to become more and more humane. The ideal of humanity has to be revived.
— Albert Schweitzer, (1875-1965)

Every religion in the world that has destroyed people is based on love.
— Anton LaVey

Christianity has ever been the enemy of human love.
— Ouida, (1839-1908)

Christianity, with its doctrine of humility, of forgiveness, of love, is incompatible with the state, with its haughtiness, its violence, its punishment, its wars”
— Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

We preach peace, forgiveness, tolerance and love. We practice vengeance, persecution, hatred and domination. My personal beliefs are supported and validated by my convictions.
Oh, and never forget .... my religion is truth, yours is a lie.

I enjoy material things like sex, pot, and roller coasters, but I certainly don't worship them.

And even if I did actually bow down and pray to my television or hot tub, it's my own choice and none of your business. The First Amendment guarantees I can worship anything I want...

What a generalization. You cannot convince me Christians don't love material things. One of the things that drove me away was the overly ornate and huge churches built with extortion money. How much ill-gotten money does the Catholic church have in it's coffers in the Vatican? And what a pathetic amount they yielded in all the boys for bozos scandals!

Not necessarily true. We all know Christians who worship material things above all else....look at the TV evangelists stealing money from the disadvantaged. The atheists I know believe in man's ability to love one another....a direct link to goodness instead of a god.

Whoa, look at this original thinking! Wait, no, same old rhetoric.

We don't worship god, get over it. Just because we believe this is our only life doesn't make us worship any material possessions.

Please think before you post. And also, look up the word "worship".

Actually, no you're wrong. We don't worship anything. If I did worship something, It wouldn't be material things, it'd be science. I prefer logic over something that people can't proof is really there.

No, that's not true. I don't worship anything. I use money, I live in a house, I enjoy sex, but I don't actually worship any of it.
