I have a neutered male that still marks. It is usually because they were not neutered early enough. Once they learn the behavior, it doesn't go away once the hormones do. It's just the way it works.

Because these behaviors are dominant. He is showing dominance. If he was just recently neutered, you should start to see these behaviors subside within 6 months to a year. And you will need to also show him that you are the boss. So if you see him mounting you need to correct him. Gently push him away, giving him a firm NO. You can also try using a spray bottle along with the NO command.
Marking is normal behavior for any male dog, neutered or not. If he is marking in the house, make sure you clean the area well with a neutralizer or with Vinegar & water mixture. Also if you catch him in the act of trying to mark in the house, try stopping him and taking him immediately outside.

Yes, most dogs will still mount, it is ingrained. I have even seen dominate neutered females mount. Marking their territory is just going around and urinating which they have to do. Neutering an animal will, in most cases, cause the animal to be less aggressive. It will not stop them from protecting what they consider to be there pack or den. Also the plus side of neutering is that you do not have to concern yourself with an unwanted litter of pups down the road, they lose interest in following that sent so it will help keep them at home. It will ADD time to your animals life. Unless you are planning to breed, which I highly DO NOT recommend, the best thing for you and your animal is neutering. Backyard breeders lose their beloved pets on average 6 months to 1 year earlier and the money that it takes for vet visits, docking, immunizations etc. in most cases out weighs the money you will receive for those little squirming bundles.

How long since you had him nuetered? Some dogs can take six months of so to get rid of the hormones. As far as the mounting that an ingrained thing, I had a dog that would mount my female dog and he was neutered. He would get on top and be like what the heck am I doing this for?!

Although mounting and marking are initially behaviors that hormones direct they are also learned behaviors. If you neuter your dog before these hormones enter the dog's system then the dog will not display this behavior spontaneously. But this will not stop the dog from learning these behaviors from other dogs. You treat these behaviors as you would any bad behavior. You know of course that mounting is a dominance behavior. I never allow my dogs to mount me or other people or strange dogs. But it can be OK within their own pack when establishing order. But don't allow one dog to constantly mount another. As for marking, dogs do it to mark territory and you never allow them to do that in the house but I allow mine to do it when on walks.

Neutering a dog , will not take the instict out of trying to be leader of the pack. Its good for health reasons, other then that you still have the dog.

its his instinct, they just want to make sure all the other dogs know who was there.when he trys the mounting say firmly no and push him down.in time he will realize that it is not a thing to do. he will always want to mark his territory to show his dominance.

You aren't exibiting dominant behvior. He believe he is the dominant one. Just ebcause he is nuetered doens't mean he won't try to be aplha male. If he feels you are doing poorly in being the leader, he will try to be it.
