I just saw a question from another poster whose child has "flat feet" and trying to get advice on how to remedy this condition.
I have a 1yr old, just learning how to walk. What are the problems associated with "flat feet" and how do I prevent my daughter from having "flat feet"?

Pes planus otherwise termed as flat feet is a biomechanical problem experienced by a surprisingly high percentage of the population. Flat feet are a condition where the arch of the foot appears flattened. This causes the foot to roll inwards in order to gain contact with the floor and support the weight of the body, and is the main clinical feature of excessive pronation. The condition is most commonly a congenital condition but it can also be acquired as a result of the foot being repetitively subjected to hard surfaces eventually weakening the arch of the foot. In today's world of concrete and tarmac it is therefore not surprising that this condition is becoming more and more frequent in people of all age groups. However - as you are referring to a one year old, you might look at the footprints left when the child walks on a dry floor with wet feet. Children under six years old have naturally flat feet. Most children develop an arch by five to six years of age. Babies and toddlers also have a ‘fat pad’ under their arch, which gives the appearance of a very flat foot.
As in all cases when more detailed medical information is required, you would be advised to consult your doctor or paediatrician.

I myself have flat feet. There is basically nothing you can do about it. I am not entirely sure but I imagine genetics has something to do with it.

I know I cannot be drafted into the military because flat feet cause back problems and other types of posture related issues. Weight distribution on your feet is uneven, which can cause a host of foot problems.

Flat feet is a genetic trait. Either you have them or you don't. You can't really prevent them.

I've had them my whole life... no problem. My dad has had them his whole life and he is 84 years old.... He was in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was a postal carrier for years.... no problem.

Don't worry about it. If your child's feet are flat, there isn't anything to worry about. Just means your child's feet do not have an arch, and there is not reason to worry about it.
