I plan on visitng NY this winter (cold I know) and I will be looking for places to live in the area. I know some neighborhoods are safer than others. What are they called? What part of NY do they belong to?

I wouldnt mind living 30 minutes outside the state considering I hear its cheaper. I also hear everything is very compact so... it doesnt take you long to get from point A to B.

Most neighborhoods in Manhattan are safe. I live in the Upper West side and love it. It's more family oriented, however, so if you're young and single you should probably try the Village or Soho, maybe the Union Square area. If you're looking for a less expensive place try Jersey City since it's very close. You could also check out some areas in Brooklyn and Queens. Good Luck.
