Gaucher disease has three common clinical subtypes.

* Type I (or nonneuropathic type) is the most common form of the disease, occurring in approximately 1 in 50,000 live births.

* Type II (or acute infantile neuropathic Gaucher disease) typically begins within 6 months of birth and has an incidence rate of approximately 1 in 100,000 live births.

* Type III (the chronic neuronopathic form) can begin at any time in childhood or even in adulthood, and occurs in approximately 1 in 100,000 live births..

The most common form of Gaucher disease (Type 1) affects 1 in 100,000 of the general population although it is estimated that not all those who have Gaucher disease will show symptoms. In the rarer Type 2 and Type 3 Gaucher disease, neurological problems will occur. Gaucher's disease has no cure. Treatment options for types 1 and 3 include medicine and enzyme replacement therapy, which is usually very effective. There is no good treatment for the brain damage of type 2. I regret that I have no details of the rarity of type 2 & 3.

"Three forms of the disease are recognized: Types I, II and III. Type I is by far the most common and shows the mildest symptoms. It is non-neuronopathic, meaning that the nervous system is not attacked. The onset of Type I can occur at any age in childhood or adult life with the average age of onset at about 21 years. Some affected individuals are have no symptoms throughout adult life. Type II, the infantile form, accounts for less than 1% of patients with Gaucher disease. It is neuronopathic (attacks the nervous system); nervous system effects are severe, and victims often die within the first year of life. Type III most often has its onset during childhood and has some of the features of both the adult and infantile forms. This affects less than 5% of persons with Gaucher disease."

1 in 50,000 or one in 100,000, depending on the form. Mostly prevalent among Ashkenazi Jews. Not to be tart, but shouldn't you be a little better-read on your condition?
