You apparently are speaking with a small group of Christians and Muslims who have a very limited view. Truthfully, it is because of Christianity that science took off like it did in Europe. There is no conflict. Each has it's place in the quest for truth.

I personally don't know any Christians who have said that religion has "ALL the ANSWERS". Consider no where in the Bible are we told how to castrate a bull. I do however think that basic rules of how we as people should act are found in the Bible, and many other religious books. So I could imagine saying it has All the answers on Christian belief. As for your comment about schools, I personally don't give a flying fig if my beliefs are taught in a school, as long as room is left for it to coexist. Case in point, if someone wants to teach the THEORY of evolution, that is their choice, however, just as they have their theory I have mine.
Albert Einstein once said "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind". There are many basic scientific truths found in the Bible, but the point of the Bible is not to be a science text book, but rather to show us a guide of where we came from, are now, and are headed, and basic rules for which to live by.
Sadly it seems some less enlightened people think that one can have EITHER spiritual beliefs, or agree with science. This is in NO way true. Consider a gun. It is in some ways a marvel of science, however, without some moral, and/or spiritual guidance, it can be horrifically used.

For me, the answers I get from the Bible and "Religion" are on the big questions in life...how to get along with people (walk in love), how to love others (see I Corinthians 13), how to treat people when they are cruel (turn the other cheek)
How to treat money (ironically the most talked about topic, and the sin is the love of money, not money itself)
For me, learning about Jesus and teachings have taught me that the world has it all backwards in certain aspects. In Christianity, we are to put others first and ourselves last. It's about caring for one another.
So, do I use it for every answer...no
If i need to figure out how to look for a job, I go to a job hunting resource,
If I need to find out how to buy a car, I might ask a friend, or purchase consumer reports or check a website
But, in answer to the eternal questions, religion works for me!

Religion = a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by.
Science = the study of the physical world and its manifestations, especially by using systematic observation and experiment
Religion not equal to science.
Evolution = theory, not fact.
Evolution not equal to proof of scientific brilliance.
Want to replace science with superstition, I hope not!

First, Christian and Muslim approach are way to different.
Second, in the case of the Bible, it gives answers to our spiritual needs, answers which science cannot give. BUT its purpose is not to give technological knowledge, which science is fit to give. Therefore, we need both.

some things are better off unknown..... god doesn't want us to know how to make mechanical legs, or do heart transplants, or make artificial embrios to produce human life...
the world is ending soon and its all our fault.

If "God" was an answer for everything, would we need courts, a legal system, politics, laws, accountants, the military, etc
