I have only traveled overseas twice in my life and I have been told this both times upon returning.

Nope. I've been to a lot of places internationally and no one from U.S. custom or any custom ever said that. I guess they must have really liked you.

Not from the States (UK) but i have never had such a greeting on returning home from a different country.
