My mom filed a income tax return for single and joint filers with no dependents, 1040ez, 2006. What's that mean? I'm still relying on her, does that mean she has a dependent?

In the Uk a dependent is classified as a child under the age of 18 and in full time education.

A child of 16 who is working or over the age of 18 is considered to be independent and therefore not dependent on their parents.

Hope this helps.

You may qualify as her dependent, but she is not required to claim you as a dependent. She filled out Form 1040EZ probably just to get her withholding back, since she did not owe tax.

Form 1040EZ is for single or joint filers with uncomplicated income sources, and who claim no dependents.

Your question doesn't make sense. You can't file Single and joint at the same time. She may be able to claim you as a dependent if various tests are met but if she filed Form 1040-EZ she cannot claim any dependents.

There are a number of requirements to claim someone as a dependent. If you lived with your mom for over half the year, you did not provide over half of your own support for the year, and you are either under age 19 or under 24 and a full-time student, then she can probably claim you - otherwise she can't. Just supporting someone doesn't necessarily allow you to claim them as a dependent.
