That is, within your Christian religion, i.e. the Trinity concept, the validity of the Creation stories, the relevance of the Old Testament, etc.

I became an atheist before I began to use Yahoo! Answers, but I have learned some things about Christianity here that contradict the fundamentalist system I was raised to believe. Of course, I still don't accept it, but it certainly seems a lot better to me than it did before.

chieko: Atheism is not a religion, because it only means the lack of a belief in God. Some people actively reject God, but they are more than just 'atheist.' We have no other unifying features, and certainly no rituals...

To make sure everyone understands: I'm asking what of your own beliefs have changed in respect to Christianity, not in respect to other religions or atheism.

I should point out that changing beliefs is not necessarily a sign of weakness, but often a sign of growth. Some people do cite sources, and proper investigation can yield some interesting results.

If we approach the world as if we already know everything, how can we learn?

Yeah, some of my beliefs have changed: some became a little more focused because discussing them made me think and re-think my logic in my beliefs.

I've added other people's valid points -- believers and non-believers -- to my faith and it's great!

Skye, Y!A hasn't changed MY views of Christianity one iota. It HAS however reinforced them. I have ALWAYS believed that there were TWO sects of Christianity. There are the Bibliests, those who worship the Bible but CLIAM that they worship God and Jesus. Then there are the Christians, Those who actually LIVE their lives every day by following Jesus's exapmple and loving their fellow humans, unconditionally. This forum has only provided evidence that this is so. The Bibliests use their bible as a means to bash anyone whjo doesn't agree with them. The Christians on the other hand have been loving, accepting of EVERYONE on here and SHOW this by their geniune caring for everyone, even those of other Beliefs.

I would Choose to spend time and effort establishing a friendship with ANY Christian here, BUT I will turn my back on ALL the Bibliests.

why would it change my beliefs? for the most part I seldom seek knowledge on this site especially in the religion category. not to insult anyone but I am on this site to be amused and you sir, amuse me. I am not putting anyone down who offers valid advice, answers and opinions but it amuses me how many people out there havent a clue as to what they are talking about. sometimes I dont know what I am talking about but I try to answer serious questions to the best of my ability. It is amusing how many just want to post a question just to start a fight. And in my experience on this site
atheists fall into the top 5 groups that love to pick fights. No not you, because your question is at least intelligent and thought out. But some really love to push believers to the edge. I have nothing against atheists, as long as they dont try to change me or my beliefs. And I wont try to convince you there is a God. Because I will be very honest with you- I really dont care if atheists believe in God or not. We all have freewill. We believe what we want and since neither side is going to convince the other then I consider the whole issue of whether or not there is a one true God to be a moot point at best. All I will say is one side is right and we will see who is right eventually.

No. My faith is as intact as it was before I graced you with my presence. LOL What I have learned is that atheists for the most part are very angry people. I'm not trying to ridicule or point the finger but, a lot of atheists are self-centered and enjoy ridiculing others who believe differently than they do. They say they use logic and science in their arguments but I haven't seen much logic in their arguments--except of course when that "logic" expresses their point of view. Any scientific argument in opposition to their belief system is evaded or ridiculed w/o any plausible counter argument. Reading the writings of the atheists who grace Y! answers with their presence, makes me glad that I'm a Christian. Sorry, this is my observation.

Hello,

That is very hard to answer because even if many people know they have been proved wrong they will not openly admit it.

That said, my religious views remain intact so far but I have changed a few beliefs in the history and social science departments when I came across good logical arguments backed up by reliable sources.

No my belief in God hasn't changed. I guess the sad thing is your non belief in Him hasn't changed. There are a lot of people reading and responding on here and no one was able to get through to you. I think what you are rejecting is religion. Religion and God are two completely separate things. God is love forgiveness, we aren't to judge, be honest, and be an example. Religion tells you that women shouldnt wear pants to church. Religion says to confess all your sins to your pastor. Religion says you HAVE to give money to the church. God is not of that. He accepts you just how you are flaws and all. He even accepts your nonbelief and loves you. People exile non believers- God embraces them.

yes. i didn't realize that atheism was actually sort of a religion. where they have their belief systems, rituals, etc. and defend them just as hard as Christians do. sort of an *anti-religion* religion with fanatical followers.

they meet together (congregate) and make plans to see that their doctrine is spread throughout the world. they become upset if anyone says anything against their gods...

so i've discovered that atheism and theism are actually the same thing, only pointed in different directions...we are more alike than we are different.

edit: btw, my beliefs HAVE changed, because i now include atheists AND their religion (atheism) as another God-focused group wanting to be heard from...whereas before i believed atheists didn't really care about God one way or another...

Great question. I have wondered about this too, for the short time I've been here. I certainly understand the atheist point of view somewhat better now.
