my wedding is july 2008, outside, and probably in the evening (7ish) and i need help picking colors. my dress is white with red trim. i was thinking about going with red, white, and silver. a friend of mine suggested red, orange, and yellow. i am not crazy about the red, orange, yellow at all. as far as themes, i want it to be fun, playful, garden party-ish. what other colors would look good with red?

I like red, white and silver for an outdoor summer wedding. It is simple but elegant.

Red, white and silver are perfect if that is what you love. If you aren't totally in love with it I'd suggest dropping the silver. Silver can be VERY hard to pull off as sometimes it just turns out looking tacky and cheap. But if you love it, I say go for it.
For an evening wedding with red you could do sunset colors--but that would incorporate the reds and oranges and dark pinks that you may not be crazy about. However, those colors do coordinate well because they are all next to each other on the color wheel. You just have to be a bit careful how to match them all.
You could also use a darker ruby red and do more jewel tones and add in dark purple (which is becoming very popular; especially in fashion), dark green, etc.
Colors sometimes sound odd together, so I suggest going to a scrapbook store and just start picking out papers and putting them next to each other til you see something that jumps out at you.

For goodness sake, do not put orange with your red. If your dress is white with red trim, why not have the girls in your wedding in red with white trim. You can mix colors in their floral arrangements, but follow through with red in your own wedding floral arrangement. Multi color mixings do not seem to be as classy as something like this suggestion of just two colors. Be sure the red is close in match to the red in your dress, but make sure the material used is soft and the styles are more fluid.

I know the colors red, orange, and yellow do not sound appealing, but they are the perfect colors for a garden party. I'd go with gerber daisies, calla lillies, or roses in those colors.
For bridesmaid dresses, perhaps sun dresses in a pale yellow so they don't look like canaries. Or off-white with red or orange patterns.

I think red, white and silver would be great. I was just in a wedding with those colors, but the bride was all in white. The groom and groomsmen were in silver ties and vests.
Since your dress is white with red accents you can have the bridesmaids in red with white accents or a white sash.
You could even have your bouquet all red, and the girls all white.
I think it's fabulous!! (that word isn't used enough anymore!)
good luck!

I used to work in a bridal gown shop and have sold many of bridesmaid dresses.... i have seen every color combo there is! honestly you could pick ALMOST any two or evern three colors and as long as you cordinate the decor and flower with them it will all tie together.. Red and Silver are nice, as well as maybe red dresses with a white sash, or black dress with red sash, but i agree take a swatch of the red on your dress to a flourist and have them make a few arragments for you so you can see what the colors will look like all together! good luck!

Since your wedding is in July why don't you do a 4 of July theme. Red, White and Blue. I would use more of a Navy Blue. Good Luck!

I suggest getting a swatch of the red in your dress and take it to a florist. They can pull flowers that might look good with your shade of red, and you can decide what you love/hate as far as color combinations. Red is a tricky color as it can be deep like maroon, or bright like a candy-apple shade, and a million colors in between. You'll really have to see the colors together to decide what will work and what won't.

Guessing you are not gonna want red white and blue huh...
Well red are the color of roses and many other summer flowers. What about different shades of red. Do a bright red, a soft red and a wine like color.
