If you love him, let him be. Let him work out things for himself.
He obviously is attached to you. If you break with him, it will hurt him. However, you have to consider your own life first.
There is a philosophy that says that if you try and please other people, you in fact please nobody. But if you please your self, at least you please somebody.
If you do decide to go with him, encourage him to talk. That is about anything at all. If you can teach him to talk and learn him to listen then you shall have good husband material.
