I have a sunburn that is peeling badly in a very large region of my back. what is the best way to make it so it doesnt peel but the dead skin goes away asap?

Aloe vera gel helps the burn a lot. You are still going to peel in the areas that have started. If the skin is dead, then its dead. But the aloe vera gel greatly speeds healing and sooths the burn.

After you shower take your towel and try to rub it over your back exfoliating the peeling skin - have someone apply a nourishing moisture rich cream nothing with a mineral oil to it.
Aloe is good if you are burned (soothing) but you need to get the dead skin off - even a lufa on a stick would help.

Impossible. You burned the skin, causing a major injury. Now you have to pay the price - burning, itching, and peeling like a lizard.

All you can do for sunburn is prevention. Never go out in the sun without protection again.

ALOE VERA GEL!!! it works really good, you can find it in most drug stores. (its green)
