I think you should definately do it. Tattoos are only worth getting if they mean something to you. I have a tribal butterfly on my hip. I know every girl with a tattoo has a butterfly. Butterflies are WAY overdone. But I got it anyways because it has special and sentimental value to me. It it means something to you, then definately get it. A tattoo is something you will keep with you forever so it should be something that means something. I say go for it. Don't worry about if it is overdone. This is about YOU and what it means to YOU

it's your body so you can do what you want but personally getting a tattoo in a language that is not your own or culturally tied to you seems silly. how do you even know that the symbol you are getting means what you think it does? would you be happy with it if in 10 years you found out it means "green tree"? probably not. what does this symbol supposedly mean? why not just get that actual word tattooed on you? (i am not a fan of word tattoos either but atleast you'd know for sure what you're getting).
but, like i said it is your body and your tattoo so you can absolutely do what you want regardless of what other people think about whether it is overdone or whatever.

i think the reason people say that it is "over done" is because many people were gettin Kanji tats to follow a trend. Unfortunately some people don't realize a tattoo is permanent and they can't take it off now. If the tat actually means something to you then go a head and get it. You shouldn't care what others think about it or whether or not it is "over done". It holds a special meaning to you and that's all that matters.

If it means a lot to you but you would rather be understated than "overdone", and you must have a tattoo, get it done where you can appreciate it but it's not publicly visible.
I love kanji for my own reasons also (I lived in Japan at one time) but would not get a tattoo with it. IMO it is overdone now and you could seem like a "sheep" - fast forward 20 years and the visible kanji tats will be like all the rose tats we are now seeing on all the older ladies in the crowd.
LOL You may not wish to be seen as one of them! :)
Get t-shirt with your symbol instead, or have it embroidered on a cool shoulder bag or something.
BTW - I completely agree with somebody's post - we have a Chinese doctor who has humored us with stories of what his patients THINK their kanji tats mean, when in reality they mean something completely different. Yikes! :)

A tattoo is a personal decision and you should get whatever you want - even if it has no particular meaning to you. Since this symbol does hold meaning for you - I say get it. Good luck.

I think you should get the tatoo if it really means alot to you. I believe a tatoo should have personal meaning when ppl get them anyway. Just make sure you get what feels right to you. You'll have that tatoo for a long time. The tatoos that are "over done" is when ppl get them just to be cute-no personal meaning behind them. Just to be trendy. Now thats bad decision making! Who cares what they think-it's for you. Hope this helps sweetie. Good luck.

Tattoos make all people look like Springer Trash. Do members of the upper class, or royal families have tattoos? No. Why? - because they make a person look cheap.
Graffiti of the body. Being permanently marked like a branded cow!
Follow the crowd, be fashionable and trendy, be 'cool' and 'happening'. Be a sheep.
