christians are brainwashed into seeing only religion.... I don't think they could even understand the possibility of a human existing without one... they've been told so often we die without it, that their brains can't understand that we are alive and live along side of them... sharing the same planet... living a similar life,,, no great judgments to fear... no non existence feeling... I don't know if they could ever understand... it's like they are so brainwashed they can believe anyone is alive without one... in other words we living along side of them is not enough "proof" that it can be done..

You must understand that based on the first sentence in the dictionary definition of the word religion (listed below). Now after reading this, do you see why aethists are told that they are religious, because you can be religious without having a relationship with any god. I don't think you understand the word religion, you are religious my friend.
Pronunciation
–noun
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

ï¼®ï½ï¼ãit isn't a religion, but there are a lot of people with religious personalities who give themselves the title "atheï½st". Someone who was truely atheï½stic wouldn't even consider the question of god as having enough plausibility to warrant using a title. I don't believe carrots come from carrot eggs, but I think the whole idea is nonsensical enough not to have even considered calling myself an acarroteggist.

Atheism is a belief but not a religion. This is not a difficult distinction to make for anyone who purports to have the intelligence to post on YA.

I'd say it's a common assumption put forth by most monotheistic religions, the mystic followers of which have a problem conceiving a world without their deity.

Atheism is a rather confusing thing. The atheist commonly states his refusal to believe in ANY God, since, according to him, there is no evidence for any God.
When you point out to him that there is also no evidence that there is no God, he tries to turn the whole argument back on you and says "Oh, yeah? Prove it!"
But he still insists that his stance does not require faith at all.
So, it's not a "religion"...OK, I'll buy that, if you insist.
What do you call it?

It is because
1.) we atheists love to focus on disproving their religion so much, and
2.) many of them tend to think the only possible God is their own.
Combine these, and you get the misconception that atheists, defined as a group SOLELY by their LACK of belief, collectively reject the possibility of God/gods.
We don't need faith to fight the Bible. The Bible fights itself.

John:::
I would rather believe someone who is
A. Presently here on Earth
B. Does not hide his presence
C. Does not tell me how to live
D. Makes sense
E. Doesn't contradict himself
F. Can prove his existence
G. Can prove his "prophecies"
H. Is backed by logic and reason
I. Does not make unrealistic claims
J. Does not doom everyone to hell
K- ZZZZZZ. etc, etc
Just because I believe what he says (referring to scientists) does not mean I worship, or idolize him. It doesn't make it a religion.
