My wedding dress is a very light material and when I tried it on with my slip, you can see lumps from the puffy slip. It looks kinda like a garbage bag with leaves in it. I had it bussled and it looks even worse when I bussle it since its being pulled tighter. The slip is very stiff. Is there something I can do to the slip to make it softer or straigted it out. I need ideas on how to keep my dress from looking lumpy. And I can't take the dress back, it's already been altered and everything.

I told the store where I got it about that problem and they assured me that once it was altered and pressed it would be fine, which was a lie. The were not helpful at all, they only care about getting their money.

What is crinoline? Is that the tule materialish stuff. If so, yes it does and I did think about cutting that out but am scared that I might ruin it. The bridal shop was gonna charge me for taking the puffy material off the slip. Are there slips that come without the puffy stuff because that was all they had there?

I would just get a different slip. Although if you just get a long slip that doesn't have a crinoline in it, your gown will probably have to be hemmed again. The crinoline should have a piece of material that goes over the tulle so that the slip lays flat and thus the gown lays flat too. Can you post some pictures of the gown and the slip and the gown over the slip? Might be able to provide better help that way.

Ditch the crinoline slip. Just wear a plain satin slip. Most dresses are poofy enough on their own and don't need the extra crinoline. See how it looks. I wore a plain satin slip because I'm already plus size and I didn't need my hips to look any larger. If it doesn't look right go to another bridal shop and check out their slip options. Make sure the layers underneath the dress are laying flat too. That could be a problem.

Try washing the slip in Woolite and using fabric softener. This should take some of the stiffness out of the fabric. If you are leery on doing this I'd do the following steps:
1. Call the bridal shop you bought it at and get their advice.
2. Take it to a dry cleaner to see what they think.
3. See about getting light fabric that could be put over the slip as a buffer between your gown and the slip.

Good Luck

Take the dress and the slip and go to the place you bought your dress and ask them for other suggestions. They will be able to look at the problem lumps and come up with different slips that will work with the dress. And if they were the ones that told you the slip worked with the dress, go to a different bridal store and ask them. Good Luck!

Crinoline is that stiff tulle like stuff in the petticoat or slip.

Sounds to me like they gave you the wrong slip/petticoat for your dress. Sinc eyou like your dress, I would strongly reccomend a new slip!

Yes there are slips that do not have crinoline, I would suggest looking on ebay or craigslist if you want to find one cheap.

Or you can look in other bridal stores since your was not helpful at all.

I found a few websites that may help!! Good luck!

Do you have to wear the slip?

If you do, then it sounds like they sold you the wrong style. There are slips that are just silky fabricand there are the kind with 17 layers of tulle (for a ballgown style dress), and lots of different types in between. It could've been something like the shop only had one kind in stock, so just gave you that one.

If theyre giving you the run-around now, I would go into a different store and ask someone if they have any advice. Worst comes to worse, you can just get your money back for the bad slip, and go to a second store and buy one that works.

I would remove that puffy slip and buy another type of under slip. The wedding dress should not look lumpy. Talk with the wedding dress seamstress and ask if she can replace the underslip. I believe that is the problem.

call the place where u got your dress and tell them u are having trouble with the slip and they may have to tighten the slip or get a full body slip like one they wore years ago. but tell them what is happening and see what they say. if u have had the dress altered can u go to where they altered it and see what they can do i am sure they can do something about it.

It sounds to me like you need to get a different slip. Try it on with different slips until you find one that works better. Also, ask the bridal shop for ideas. Depending on how delicate your slip is, you may be able to toss it in a dryer on low heat or steam it to loosen it up a bit.

Does the slip have crinoline? If so yank some of that out. Why is it so puffy? If you make it less puffy, it will allow your dress lay smooth.
