If a person uses reports that they order and pay for from each individual CRA, the CRA has 30 days to complete their investigation.
If a person uses reports that they got for free because of FACTA (annualcreditreport.com), then the CRA's have 45 days to complete their investigation.
Like Celeste said, if a person contacts the CRA's while there is a current dispute going, the CRA's can claim new information was included and have an extra 15 days to complete the investigation.
It does not matter what the reason is when a person contacts the CRA's when there is a dispute going, they could call the CRA's and ask what the weather is like where they are - the CRA's will tack the extra 15 days onto the investigation.

relies upon what the dispute is over, you may make an effort to dispute it. yet you may have the load or proving you're suitable. basically like in court, you ought to sue somebody, yet you have the load of proving they are accountable and in charge for the situation. A 3 hundred and sixty 5 days in the past, my spouse observed that an electric powered invoice, and gasoline invoice have been charged up on her call and social huge form. The handle the centers have been dropped at have been some abode she in no way even lived at. We had to record a dispute with the two the electrical powered organisation, the gasoline organisation, and coach that she did no longer stay there. We have been able to teach she did no longer stay there. This job in contact landlord statements, police comments, and private statements. We have been finally acquitted, and we had to checklist the fraud to the credit bureau. Her credit grew to become into finally restored to the way it grew to become into regardless of the fraud.

I believe that once you dispute it the company in charge of the debt has 30 days to prove that it is a legit debt. If they do not do this within 30 days it is taken off of the report.

I don't know in the USA but in the UK they can stay on file for 6 years!!! I had a problem with a mobile phone network putting a bad credit reference on my file so I phoned them to say I had never used their company and asked them to remove the bad credit, was told they are not allowed to and told me to contact experian. O2 the phone company then ammended the credit report to say there was no money outstanding and I contacted experian and told them about the situation. was told it would stay on file for 6 years but I could add a comment to my file explaining the situation, so I did that. I would suggest that you contact the credit company that holds the bad record eg experian as well as contacting the company that repo'ed the cars to tell them they have placed a bad credit reference on the wrong person.

It use to be within 30 days but I believe that's been increased to 45 days.
Probably due to all the folks submitting disputes for legitimate negative items, hoping to increase their credit scores.

Its take up to 60 working days. Once you made disputed, you need to take as a serious to resolve this problems. you can add dispute on your credit files but its not help to get decent interest rate or good deal. Creditor may refuse once in the event dispute has been added on your credit file. you need to make a complaint who has added incorrect on credit files and leave 28days to respond by law and then take a compliant to Information commissions( ICO) who is responsibly and have power to take your case.you need to send all evidence which is help for your case. They can order Credit agency to remove without creditors concern. all together takes up 2 month to remove. ICO addres can find webside uk. good luck

30 to 45 days from the date the agency receives the dispute.
It's normally just 30 days, however it can be extended, but not more than 15 days if the agency receives more information from the consumer that is relevant to the investigation.
